In the near future, a Virtual Reality Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (VRMMORPG) called Sword Art Online has been released where players control their avatars with their bodies using a piece of technology called: Nerve Gear. One day, players discover they cannot log out, as the game creator is holding them captive unless they reach the 100th floor of the game's tower and defeat the final boss.

Thread for the Sword Art Online anime, dicussions and pictures welcome.

Note: The creation of this thread was to prevent spoiling SAO for other BSN members in the anime/manga thread and news feed who are in the early stages of the show, or yet to watch it :)

SAO is pretty damn great. Not the best thing I've ever watched but its definitely worth my time. One pitching I don't see get brought up much though is the Background music, it's worthy of praise on its own.

Yes you're completely right, I've often thought that as well. Whether it's the cheery open fields or epic confrontations it certainly sets the mood. Especially any Asuna/Kirito moments :crying:

Lololol.

But yeah If a player gets forced out of the game by either their HP being depleted to 0 or the Nerve Gear being removed in the real world, it's set to microwave your brain. Clearing the game is the only way to leave safely.

Hmm, with saM here, is it similar in premise to the .Hack animes?

Just felt like asking since my feed is pretty much spammed with this thread and the general anime thread lol

Honestly couldn't say. Haven't seen those. :o

All I can suggest is to take the dive and check it out. It starts a little slow though its pretty solid all around. I watch next to no anime but this, managed to catch my interest.

That was the best boss fight so far.

The boss of the 75 foor from what they let us see was kind of cheap, and the reveal of who the final boss of the first game is one of the best twists of the show so far, but the way the final boss was defeated was disappointing.

Yes, I loved this boss - especially the way it was animated!
The final boss reveal really surprised me! I didn't see that coming, especially so soon. And Asuna, man I thought she was a goner - I was so sad!

PS - My group of friends and I are doing a Sword Art Online group cosplay in 2013 :)

PPS - Some pretty fan art (not mine) ~

Just finished 12. I don't think a show's made me feel like that in awhile.

TBH Sword Art is that anime I was always looking for but couldn't find - it has all the elements I love; beautiful animation, strong character development, humor, epic fights, sword and fantasy themes. It really is amazing! :)

Wow....in the years to come, it'll become so advanced that the Virtual World will look just as real as this world. Hopefully we will be alive long enough to witness that jump.:)

This is mind blowing.

That's the first thing I thought.

And wasn't there a terrible horror movie about that?

I know what you're saying, and I've actually been watching a lot of anime lately.

Regardless of that fact, I'm still difficult to please. I mean, if you go into the anime/manga thread and ask anyone, I wont even watch anything that's older than 10 years. I don't even like specific genres, so it's almost impossible to find something that I'll like for sure. I like what I like, and I don't like what I don't. That's all there is to it.

It's been a few months since I've watched anything that I'm actually excited to see. After finishing about 7 episodes of this, I was already enjoying it as much as I was Toradora after 25 episodes, or Gurren Lagann after 27.

Since this is also my first new series, it's also going to last much longer than everything else I've seen. I've not watched any anime where I had to wait for a new episode to be released. This is good, because now SAO will last a long time for me.

I'm just loving it. Really, I am. I can't even find anything to complain about other than the large gaps in time, but I can even look past that because it allows me to see the really important moments much faster. A lot of people have said the series is slowing down a lot, but I'm not getting that at all. Every episode leaves me waiting for the next, and waiting for the next leaves me wondering what will come after that.

I guess that's all I have to say. Sorry about the length of the post, heh.

You know I totally get that! I'm also quite picky about what I watch, and this really hit it for me for reasons mentioned previously. It might even over take FMA:Brotherhood as my favourite anime.

I may be a little biased but I don't think it's slowing down at all, I still find myself waiting anxiously for the next episode too! I would love to see some more cameos from the other characters and friends, so I'm hoping that will happen :)

I get you.

But anyway, I'm watching 14 now, and a friend spoiled the fact that other MMOs would come into play, so I pretty much know this is the end of SAO, and we'll be on to something else soon.

I'll get back to you in about 15-20 minutes when I'm done.

Ahhh really? Yeah that's the biggest point I've been trying to keep from you/other friends. I've introduced my RL friends to it, but they're only in the early stages and all I want to do is blab about the new game and outfits etc. Heheh. I won't say any more till you finish. Good luck, ep 14 is a good one!
