Having a little trouble deciding how to spec Kaidan. Specifically with Reave and Ranks 5 & 6 of his Alliance Officer.

So far...
For Overload I have Chain Damage, Recharge and Shield Damage.
Cryo Blast I have Radius.
Barrier I have the Barrier Strength and Power Synergy.
Alliance Officer I took Durability.

Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated.

You didn't want Reave? It is instacast, primes and detonates biotic explosions, etc.

No. I want it. Just have no idea how to finish the build. Right now I just have the first three ranks.

Reave - Radius, Recharge, Damage and Duration.
Cryo - Ignore this. His other powers are better.
Barrier - Barrier Strength, Power Synergy, Power Recharge.
Overload - Chain, Recharge, Chain.
Alliance Officer - Durability, Biotic Damage, Squad power damage.

Use a Revenant, Prothean Rifle, Adas, or Typhoon on him. Altogether kaiden is very tanky, has a strong overload for crowd control and defense stripping, and reave is a great primer/detonator for biotics and does great DoT by itself as well.

I currently have Kaidan with the Revenant and a Carnifex (which I rarely have him use). I'll have to try the Typhoon.

Thanks for the advice on his abilities.

Edit: Just realized the Typhoon is in the Groundside DLC, which I didn't get. Oh well, I like him with the Revenant.

Kaiden used to be cool. I am not a fan his ME3 powers. He should have throw! He biotic-kicked a Turian for crying out loud

Throw would've be nice indeed for Kaidan.

What class are you playing as? I usually spec Kaidan in one of the following ways:

Kaidan 1. Biotic Best Friend:
Reave: Radius - Recharge Speed - Barriers and Armor
Alliance Officer: Weapon Damage/Durability - Biotic Damage - Squad Bonus (Power damage)
 * No other points needed

Kaidan 2. Tech buddy:
Overload: Damage - Recharge Speed - Shield Damage
Cryo Blast: Radius - Cryo Explosion - Recharge Speed
Alliance Officer: Weapon Damage/Durability - Tech Damage - Squad Bonus (Power damage)
 * No other points needed.

Kaidan 3. I want to be a biotic Krogan:
Barrier: Barrier Strength - Shield Recharge - Barrier Strength
Alliance Officer: Durability - Biotic Damage - Squad Bonus (Shield Recharge)
 * No other points needed

I'm playing as a Vanguard. So far I have him speced out to a little of each of your builds.

I max everything except Cryo Blast and go for straight damage and survivability, and in ranks that offer one or the other I go with damage.

Area Reave all the things. Take him and Javik along both with Particle Rifles (or Typhoons), and give Shepard squad AP ammo. Biotic Explosions everywhere and armored targets melt like butter.

Since you are a Vanguard, then I agree with ZombieGambit and suggest you Area Reave (Reave rank 4 radius) everything. Overload is probably better against shields (especially Atlases and Geth Primes) since you can Overload > Charge/Shockwave for a tech burst and tech bursts deal extra damage against shields.

This is what I am trying right now for him:

Barrier: Barrier Strength, Power Synergy
Reave: Radius, Recharge Speed, Damage & Duration
Overload: Chain Overload, Recharge Speed, Shield Damage
Cryo Blast: Radius
Alliance Officer: Weapon Damage, Tech Damage, Squad Bonus (Tech & Biotic Powers)

He's equipped with the Revenant and Carnifex (which I rarely have him use). Both with the magazine upgrade and extended barrels.

That looks good. I prefer the squad run piercing mods when available, since they like to shoot at enemies behind cover.

I usually don't use those because of the reduced damage but I'll give it a try on both him and Garrus' AR and see how that goes.

The damage is only reduced when shooting through cover.  Without the piercing mod, the damage is reduced by 100% when shooting at cover because it isn't hitting the enemy.
