I hope Bioware improves on the Character Face Customization in DA3

As a console gamer I don't have the luxary of adding mods to my DA experience to enhanch the visual style of my character.
I wish the devs would refine the character face customization feature to a higher degree. More assets and more ability for users to cutomize those assets, DA:O customizing was pretty good, better than 2.
When user mods end up being better than in game developer created assets it just means more effort has to be made on the developer side. Console games cannot be modded to fit the user preference hence we are stuck with default styles.
Better looking noses, more differing hair styles, etc.
Looking at other games that did character face customization: Saints Row the third beign really good, Dragon's Dogma.
Oblivion, Skyrim, Dragon Age 2, and Dark Souls did terrible in this regard.
I look at Skyrim for example, Bethesda developed game and the mods took over. The user mods are way better than the developer created assets. For console gamers, there isn't any flexability at all.

They wanted to make a bigger game than origins. I hope your're right and we see huge improvements.
Dragon Age Orgins was in development for 6 years, resulting in high praise
Dragon age 2 was in development for 2 years and resulted in a mediocre score
Dragon Age 3 seems to have a development of 2-3 years. I hope in that time we expect a higher quality game.

And as I am made to understand Origins wasn't in development that long because they were making it super super awesome it was because there were a lot of problems in the dev cycle.

DA:O was bound to be in development ALOT longer than any sequel. They had to create the world of Thedas for the first game, the magic system, the combat system. Everything. all this was in place when they started DA2.
Nice post as not many people realise this.

Which to me makes the travesty that was DA 2 even worse.

I actually find I can create better-looking characters in DA2 than DA:O, so I see the CC as a nice improvement. But one thing we can all be excited about is that devs have promised, as Rawgrim said, to focus a lot on customization for DA3
I'm not sure what the devs meant by customization?
Customization could come in all forms.
Are we talking about face customization? Weapon customization? Armor Customization? Skill tree Customization?
I care about face customization because that's a fixed portion of the game.
Bioware can always add in DLC for weapon and armor. Skill trees can always be added but facial features that's fixed. You won't see DLC for that.
That's why I care that Bioware makes a wide variety of pleasant faces, have the model creators look at fashion magazines, game mods to see how other fans make their characters look good and apply it to their game.
When fans step up to fix a game it usually means that the original developer is lacking in those areas that's why we see those beatuy mods all the time.
It's what appeals to the gamers. Sure beauty is in the eye of the holder and it's pretty subjective, but in terms of psychology our culture has adapted to a particular beauty. One where the perfect alignment of the eyes, nose and face are perfect.

at least it was better than mass effect in which all faces of female sheps looked like they were half-finished claw pots.
I have to agree with you there. If a character model is bad looking I wouldn't dare touch the rest of the game. Even if the gameplay is just as good and etc, it's just knowing my character is ugly and I hate playing ugly characters in games.
You can always go through many environments but your character stays with you throughout the whole journey.
That's why it's very important that the Devs get facial character customization perfect.

If the fans could make such improvements then I wonder why the developers could not have done so in the first place. I seriously hope they improve this since using frostbite engine next time around the capability is there to make it vastly better done and not left to the fans to improve it again. It shouldn't be upto the fans to improve the visuals in my opinion, if the fans can improve it then the devs could of done better prior to that stage so that fans would not have to.
But I suppose atleast if Bioware lacks quality in such elements there is comfort in knowing the fans will pick up the slack and make it better such as unlocking the equipment customisation mod and the improved facial and hair, world locations textures and such plus other such mods that were created to improve the game post release. They are using a better engine this time so hopefully this won't be an issue but there is always a chance people will have to improve it because Bioware lacked effort in one or more areas due to time schedules and resources.

And none of those ME 1 'female' scars. I want my Femquisitor to look like she's been on the receiving end of a lot of sharp knives, glass shards and what have you.
