I recently received a retail copy of Dragon Age on the PC as a gift, but cannot activate it on Steam like I can with most games.  Is this an issue that is being resolved or must I always have the disc in the drive?  How am I to know if my game is completely up-to-date?  Please tell me that there is a resolution to this issue.

Thanks!

It's possible that the only way to play it on Steam is if you purchase it through Steam. From what it sounds like, someone bought the game at a store and you got it as a Christmas gift. If so, then yeah, you gotta have the disc in there to play. I bought DA through Steam and they provided me with their own CD Key.

As far as making sure the game is up to date, there should be links on this forum that explain how to update the game to the latest patch.

That's absurd. I cannot believe Valve/Bioware/EA would allow such a discrepancy to exist. I truly hope this is fixed.

I personally would not have played the game had I been forced to use steam for the disc version.

Theres only like a dozen games that can be activated on Steam through a retail CDkey - and most of them are Valve games.

I bought the steam version, half the price of the shop copy in Australia. However the key provided by steam for the game doesnt let me register the game here. It keeps saying invalid key. And no I didnt make any typos.

Then again - stupid case sensitive crap!   Steam shows the key all in upper case - here it works only lower case.

I like steam because it is a centralized application for all my games and keeps them up to date. I, also, have never been a fan of having the disc in the tray . . .
