Since we'll be inquisitors, give us trials

I've always enjoyed trials and investigations in RPGs.

Now, assuming we play as an inquisitor...

...an interesting kind of recurring subquests in DA3 could have the protagonist holding trials of some sort, and having to decide whether to absolve, jail or execute people for different crimes. Awakening occasionally had something of the sort, but I would like more of that - and more in depth.

For example, you could pass sentence immediately or take your time to investigate, ask witnesses, gather evidence, etc.

Or maybe you could accept bribes and be a corrupt judge.

Or a party member could ask you to favour a friend of his/her.

Sometimes we may learn later in the game whether our choice was correct or not - other times, unless we find crucial evidence, we might be left in doubt.

One thing that I could do without is the possibility, which another recent game about an "inquisition" offers, to torture people to get a confession - that strikes me as too much, bordering on tasteless.

Still, having to hold trials and investigations could be a fun feature.

It's not confirmed yet we are the inquisitor, we could be anything else.

Trials!? We're talking about the inquisition here. I want a torture chamber.

I'm sure that our PC will have trials, as well as tribulations, in the next game.

I would love to have trials take place, or any sort of oratorical clashes like the Landsmeet. However, the outcome can't simply be getting a fight or not. The outcome should matter, even if it means that losing is insta-death or exile from a part of the map like Manaan in KOTOR.

Note, however, that this can't work if we only get to choose our statements from a single sentence paraphrased from a paragraph-long response as the DA2 dialogue wheel would have handled it. In such a situation, the player has to have more control over the flow of the debate than simply leaving most of it to the PC.

Damn you I opened this thread just to go for that objection.

Trials?! Haha inquisitors are little more than glorified torturers. your judge will be the rack and your jury a pillory, and if you're particularly quiet it's the maiden for you.

Sure, why not. But only if I get to hold the positions of judge, jury AND executioner.

I'll save Bioware the trouble of adding that and just say the punishment for everyone on trial:

One million years dungeon!

Your ideas are really good but it won`t be real inquisition without torture chamber!

As long as I can act like a Inquisitor from Warhammer 40k and say things like this:

A plea of innocence in my court is guilty of wasting my time! Guilty!

The question is not how to separate the innocent from the guilty. The question is how many I can burn.

It could be an interesting feature, but we don't even know if the main character will be an inquisitor yet. All we can infer from the title is that their is an inquisition going on and that presumably there is an organization called the Inquisition.

totally unecessary.  just say the t-word, and 90% of mages will sell you their own mothers.  unless you're just doing it for fun, in which case...

They did have trials in Kotor, though. Those were actually fun.

Are we even Inquisitors? Doesn't that seem awfully streamlined?

Couldn't we just be a character who is out for his own, or his buddies/guild/etc, interests and the setting and BS he deals with is a Chantry inquisition?
