Inland when a big storm comes, we laugh about it and hope for school delays.....
But really though, its a big storm.. My college is central PA is closed for today and tomorrow, and considering the major part isn't even close to being here yet... I expect more cancellations later in the week. Wooohoooo.

Sandy ain't sh*t. D:< Lol.
Stay safe though, but I'd personally be out in the storm enjoying it. I'd be amped up for a cat 1.
After all... I am part of the landmass between New Orleans and Alabama. :I

Keep in mind also that the southeastern coastal U.S. is generally better equipped to handle hurricanes and bad storms (with the exception of New Orleans as we're all no doubt aware). It could get pretty ugly out there... or it might not. Hopefully not, as I really don't feel like enduring another unholy storm after having endured the "derecho" storm earlier this year.

The main fear as I understand it is not the strength of the hurricane, but what will happen when it's met with an incoming cold front - this could create a "superstorm" according to weather experts.

Well, I don't want to pit myself against the people who do this for a living, but my understanding is that meeting a cold front would simply cause Sandy to degrade from a true cyclone into a more generic big storm, with the cold front causing it to dump lots of snow.
She's a big, big storm, but as I understand it the conditions aren't right for a repeat of something like the 1991 Halloween nor'easter (e.g. The Perfect Storm), which involved a nor'easter (which themselves already have characteristics similar to a hurricane) absorbing the remnants of hurricane and then evolving into a small hurricane of its own late in life.
