Holy s***, thats more than terrible.

Flip it onto a news channel on TV... it's a disaster area up north. I know some of the people here said they were from NY and NJ, hopefully they're alright.

that sucks for new york. I guess that city wasn't really made to withstand hurricanes. They don't get too many of them.

If Japan can recover, the East Coast and the cities affected can. Lets hope the death tolls stays at a low level.

Yeah, it's a hurricane and it is destructive but it is still a catagory 1. No way it could make waves big enough to swarm the statue of liberty like that.

Yes. The beautiful destruction. Freaking love it. I always take lots of photos when hurricanes hit my area. Although, this hurricane season was okayish. Isaac was booooring, but I did get some okay pics. ^_^

USA can't recover from this without more debts!
So It's the time to rebel against your so called Democratic government of USA and establish the meritocratic and ethical socialist state ... I shall travel to America soon and will be your glorious leader!

It was snowing here a while ago, but nothing's happening now, and I doubt much of anything else will. I'm glad I live further inland.

Well I'm getting mobilized for the cleanup. NG and Army Reserve units as far west as Colorado are going to be sent in. Don't know if I will be too, but I've done disaster relief before. It's not pretty.

*edit* I live in Chicago, on the Indiana side. We'll get some nasty storms coming in off the Lakes, but nothing like I'm seeing here.

It's not Katrina/Rita bad, but it's not pretty.

On the plus side, Yvonne Strahovski is in New York City, atm. Maybe I'll get to go rescue her, hmm? B)<3

The place is a smoldering wasteland. Because of "just" a Cat 1 hurricane.

As I said, I've done disaster relief before. Even in places where Hurricanes are rather routine, people and property get clobbered.

But hold tight man, the Army's on it's way.

My family is from Louisiana, they were relatively unaffected by Katrina, but New Orleans itself. It still hasn't fully recovered. Hopefully these areas won't get it as bad as the Gulf did in Katrina/Rita. But here in SC, we didnt get anything really. No rain, some wind but not sure if that's related. But I do like watching hurricanes go by. We get them sometimes, but not for several years really.

. The sad thing is that some parts of the Gulf coast still look like this.<_<

Because they're a yearly occurrence there, the southern coastal U.S. is generally better equipped to endure hurricanes and deal with the aftermath. The northeastern U.S. where hurricanes rarely tread? Not so much. Take into account that Sandy hit the largest and most populous city in the U.S., and you've got a bit of a problem on your hands.

It's the same thing with that "derecho" storm we had in my area earlier this year. It was only roughly the strength of a Cat 1 hurricane, but it devastated the area because we're not used to massive windstorms blowing in. It cost a lot of money and took a long while to clean it all up.

The Irony being that was caused by a fire that broke out and not the hurricane.

Also what Steelcan said.  Goron it takes years for some stuff to be fixed in the Southeast...then again its the South, and not at ellection time.
