You woudn't have to fight the grey wardens to own them, it's an animal they can't own a whole species.

You don't think that the Grey Wardens would do anything to possess live specimens of a species used as a symbol of their order and a weapon against the darkspawn for centuries?

They might be willing to bargain with someone who knew where live griffins might be found, but really, I suspect they'd resort to torture, murder and worse to regain control of the griffins. Especially if there were enough of the creatures to form viable breeding stock.

Wardens: We'd like your griffin.
Inquisitor: No.
Wardens: We'll pay you.
Inquisitor: No.
Wardens: We'll attack your Castle.
Inquisitor: Good luck.

I honestly don't think the wardens would pick a fight against the inquisitor over a griffin while the world is at war. They might attempt small scale raids, but other than that I don't see it happening.

Your basically making an enemy of the Wardens for the rest of your days. thats1evildude is right, they will ask politely at first, but don't let it fool you. There is no price too high for the return of the Griffons.

They let Hake start something with every single organization in Kirkwall plus the grey wardens in Legacy and we're going to keep griffins out of the game because one group would be mad at the inquisitor? Image IPB

"All right. You called our bluff. We're not going to attack your fortress. Such a move would be costly for the both of us. Instead, we're going to wait. We'll wait when the supply caravans to your castle go missing. We'll wait when your agents find themselves stonewalled at every turn or when they turn up face-down in some ditch with a dagger in their back. We'll wait when word spreads through the land that the Inquisition would not comply with a simple request from the Grey Wardens — the saviours of all Thedas. We'll wait while you fear to take a step outside your walls without being felled by an assassin's arrow."

"We'll wait until the end of the world, Inquisitor, because that is all the Grey Wardens do."

They haven't been too ballsy since they got kicked out ferelden. They don't involve themselves in politics and they'd be doing a bad job of that by attacking the inquisitor. They wouldn't help you during a Qunari invasion, but they'll try to ruin your efforts in the war over a symbol?

Honestly, I could do without the mabari. At least as far as tagging around goes. It's just not a big deal to me at this point.

Poodles are considered a very intelligent breed- perhaps they are more similar to mabari than one thinks Image IPB

If you kill the Arishok, the Qunari will think of you as a worthy rival, and they will know to plan for your intervention whenever they operate in Kirkwall.

If you side with Orsino, the Templars will mark you as an enemy. They can't go after you immediatley though, they have a war on their hands.

If you side with Meredith, you will be feared by every free mage in Thedas. But you've got the support of the entire Templar Order, so they can't just assassinate you.

Everyone of these factions would like to take a swing at you, but it's not really a top priority, and you have allies to back you up.

Witholding Griffons is on another level entirely. There is absolutely nothing the Wardens would not do for their griffons. If they had to mount up and send every Warden in Thedas after you, they would. If they had to kill 100 men to fuel a blood magic ritual that would breach your walls, they would. No price is too high, no enemy too daunting, no tactic too ruthless, no distance too far, no sacrifice to much. They will hunt you to the ends of the earth and until the end of days, and nothing you do can save you.

This isn't like killing a Knight Commander. This is like grabbing the Urn of Sacred Ashes and keeping it in your house to heal paper cuts, then flipping off the Chantry when they ask for it. This is like taking the Tome of Koslun from the Qunari and burning it in a fire, page by page. This is like inventing a device that will turn every mage tranquil and then waving it in front of their faces. You will not survive it, but it will be over quickly.

A griffin is a symbol not a religious item or text. A griffin is to the grey wardens as a mabari is to Fereldens. They aren't allowed to get involved in politics or take sides in wars such as this. Attacking the inquisitor would be viewed as an act of war which is a huge no no for the wardens.

What makes you think the Wardens would start all out war over a griffin? You keep saying "they would do this..." without any evidence to back up your statement.

I would say that a change of species might be a good idea--I mean, no offence Toto but I don't think we're in Ferelden anymore.

The Orlesians might have some kind of warhound--there was one hunter in Mark of the Assassin who had hounds, though they were still Mabari's.

And if not warhounds, maybe small wyverns or some other animal.

"Rawr I'm oppressed" doesn't sound anywhere near as epic as "Rawr, I'm a mofoing griffin ****es!".

Oh Maker, Wynne's turning over in her grave right now. Orlesian Poodles are the future, Griffins are the past. I know you're disappointed I am too, but we just have to accept it and move on to Orlesian Poodles. :P

I think the last time a Bioware Dev responded to requests for horses, they said they will not include mounts unless the game they are making is totally centered around mounted combat. They also said the same thing about the ability to swim in a Bioware game, they would never put forth that effort unless the entire game was aquatic based and important to the story.

So Griffons........won't happen until they make a Griffon flight sim game.

See, if you had bothered to read my OP then you would know I want them to be a companion like the dog, not a mount.

Ick sorry, but thats even worse. It would be like having a horse follow us everywhere, but never be able to ride it. YOu mean a pygmy griffon, a midget griffon, runt griffon, a little tiny poodle griffon?

I'd be really happy if we just see one, explore a certain mountain pass, and just a little cutscene of a griffon flying over a nest far up a sheer cliff wall. I'd like to know they are out in the wild, every single griffon being a tamed mount and killed in a war just doesn't fly:)

so there really could be something called a speed griffon?

As for a pet, I think a form of great cat would be cool, or a miniature wyvern (I'd name mine flynx)
