Griffons are only extinct in Thedas, or at least to the best of peoples knowledge. I'd love to see them return BUT.. I'd rather BW save the "Return of the Griffins" for their next game that focuses around Wardens and the Blight.

Good idea, perhaps we can hear rumors about griffin sightings. And learn the truth of it in the next game.

DLC is another possibility.

New Feed: Bioware announced to day that its new DLC add on for DA3 will include a Griffin as a compa-

Still using the correct spelling of the word.

Except that here, that's not the correct spelling, you're wrong. 'Griffon' is the correct spelling here.  How hard is that to understand?
Well whatever.

I'm sorry that I prefer the real spelling of the word to the one Bioware chose for their game. It's one letter so I don't see the big deal here but  thank you for your help anyways.

I always thought it would be interesting if the hero actually raised a griffon. At first it would be small enough to fit in a back pack, then have to walk next to you like a dog and then you would be able to ride it like the Warden's of old did. Perhaps the hero rescues a griffon egg or a baby griffon after its parent(s) are killed by poachers or something. Or the baby griffon is a result of a mage's experiment in an attempt to bring back the extinct species and when the Templars show up, the mage begs you to take the griffon for safe keeping.

The Wardens and other factions might be interested since it brings up the military advantage of a flying mount, thus making it necessary for you to fight to keep the griffon.

You reminded me of that dialogue with Wynne in which my Warden kept asking about Griffins. One of the funniest things I've ever seen.

I've already made my case against this argument in previous posts.

Undead griffons are a very viable choice for enemy.

...anything is possible when your lead writer is Gaider and not a Deitz.

I'm on a forum.

8:99 Blessed Age: Dragons were thought to have been made extinct by the infamous dragon hunters of Nevarra almost three centuries before, but a High Dragon is spotted on a feeding rampage over the Frostback Mountains. Even though scholars claimed it a terrible omen, the Chantry declared it to be a sign of the Orlesian Empire’s glory and named the next century the Dragon Age. The rebels of Ferelden, however, saw it as a sign of their nation’s rebirth and successfully threw the Orlesians out three years later.

For three centuries, dragons were believed to be extinct, and then they came back in 8:99 Blessed Age, so it is possible for griffins to make a comeback in the wild, like if a lost valley is discovered or something. If they survived and thrived in one tiny spot, it's possible that they could go unseen by humans for centuries and be incorrectly assumed to be extinct.

Yes, but wouldn't that make it a Griffin Age? Sounds like a later series. ~_^

Truth be told, I do not anticipate griffins returning in Dragon Age Three, but I could see them releasing a First Blight prequal with the grey wardens taming and flying on griffins, and gathering griffins from a certain valley, and during the course of the game the grey warden base there gets destroyed and the path to that lost valley is lost, and then in a future game after that have the main characters party accidentally rediscovering the valley in Dragon Age 9:99 and go into the Griffin Age

I want a griffin! I know they're supposed to be extinct, but it's not far fetched to believe that there are still a few flying around somewhere. I'm not asking to be able to fly it, I just want to use it as a companion.

I am not sure I want Griffins- there is a certain novelty in the 'legend.'

Griffin Age sounds like a Family Guy parody of Dragon Age, though.

Griffons are extinct in Thedas but I would love a quest that has us finding some in some far off place and perhaps restoring them to Thedas. :)
