I won't comment or go on a rant on the issue and how it went down in the first game. You already know what that was about. Ugh.

But in the second it was the exact opposite, if Female Hawke and Anders or Male Hawke and Isabela or Merrill are together and having sex for three years, isn't it pretty darn likely they'd have gotten pregnant during that time? (and don't say anything about Anders being a Warden, the first game tells us loud and clear that Wardens are still perfectly capable of reproducing with a non-Warden. And like I said, it's the same thing with Isa/Merrill.)

Reproduction in Thedos is weird. I'm confused here.

Honestly, I think it's the excessively long span of the plot that messed it up... I think the next game should be a bit less extreme. Then things might make slightly more sense.

Maybe it is you and Hawke is sterile?

Doubtful... there's no reason to believe Hawke has something physically wrong with them in any way.

Just like there's no previously given reason (before the ending) why the Warden in the first game apparently has demon disease resistant spermatozoa...

It just didn't happen? Some couples are together for many years, with unprotected sex, without ever conceiving a child.

I once had a thread about this. I thought Hawke having a child would have firmly planted Hawke into Kirkwall and get them involved in the politics of Templars/Mages more. Since their children are the future... and blah, blah, blah.

The thread was derailed by what I had feared... creepy relationship fans. I mean the PC can't even have a sister without a percentage of the BSN demanding the option to date their own sister.

So...yeah. I don't know about children.

As for contraception.... magic? The Entropy tree has a morning after spell? Explains why mages run clinics and not normal people.

Anders and FemHawke makes sense since Anders is a Warden. And I imagine there's contraception in Thedas.

Read what I said about that. Absolute rubbish.

Warden in the first game had no problem knocking up Morrigan in a timespan of, what, months? Without the aid of any magic...

I always theorised that Isabela was infertile. Would explain how she could be so promiscuous and married to that merchant for so long without ever getting pregnant. And Grey Warden fertility is VASTLY reduced, the chance is still there as we saw with Fiona, but it is fair to suggest that over tis time, FemHawke never got pregnant as couples with perfectly functioning dirty bits can try for a long time without ever getting pregnant and these are people who actually want a baby. Merrill, there isn't really anything there that would suggest she can't have children, I'll give you that.

But honestly, while realistic, it would be really, really unfair to S/S romances or Fenris romancers as a good chunk of content, if they did it, would have been required to make it work and they would not have been able to experience it.

Whatever, Isabela probably caught an STD that broke her ladyparts. That happens. Doesn't matter.

And no, given the numerous instances of Wardens having kids with healthy individuals, no their fertility is not reduced by that much, they are still quite capable and the probability is still there with every act of intercourse, just like in real life. Mmhmm.

I would bet on it.

Look at how she reacts to the Rivani fertility idol gift you give her.

Why is the contraception point not valid?

Oh yeah, and intestines. And even crocodile feces. All kinds of lovely.

However, there's nothing to clarify whether or not stuff like that exists in Thedas.

Well since there's no information that categorically says it doesn't (and let's face it, the world has magic, so most things are possible), and the evidence would suggest that it is (your own example, no children for Hawke), then it probably is.

I just assumed the man (Hawke or Anders) was so paranoid that he just pulled out every time.

Equally possible. (I would include that under the heading of "contraception".)

We have one canon case with Fiona and Maric having a child and one possible case with Morrigan and Male Warden, (not counting the DR, I'm guessing the magic had something to do with it). Other than that, I don't think there are any other occurences, that we know of, where Grey Wardens have managed to conceive. I think we're going to see more of that in future games as the throne of Fereldan, no matter who's on it, seems to be held by someone who can't have children. Alistair, a Grey Warden, and Anora, who is rumoured to be infertile and why Cailan was going to dump her for Empress Celene, (not because she's worse than the Archdemon, if you ask me, but I digress). And the Warden ruling beside them doesn't help matters, so no matter what, it seems like Fereldan is going to go without an heir to the throne.

I made a thread about that ages ago and everyone was just like, "no you're reading too much into this". Thanks for agreeing with me sort of. Image IPB

He dumps Hawke for those three years.
