Anders and FemHawke makes sense since Anders is a Warden. And I imagine there's contraception in Thedas.

Read what I said about that. Absolute rubbish.

Warden in the first game had no problem knocking up Morrigan in a timespan of, what, months? Without the aid of any magic...

Actually without the aid of magic and the dark ritual, the OGB can't be conceived, and that is the only way ever Morrigan gets pregnant. Grey Wardens very very very rarely ever have children after the Joining.

I'm pretty sure the ritual only allows the child to be tainted.  As I recall one of the writers saying that a child is born free of the taint or something along those lines.

I won't comment or go on a rant on the issue and how it went down in the first game. You already know what that was about. Ugh.

But in the second it was the exact opposite, if Female Hawke and Anders or Male Hawke and Isabela or Merrill are together and having sex for three years, isn't it pretty darn likely they'd have gotten pregnant during that time? (and don't say anything about Anders being a Warden, the first game tells us loud and clear that Wardens are still perfectly capable of reproducing with a non-Warden. And like I said, it's the same thing with Isa/Merrill.)

Reproduction in Thedos is weird. I'm confused here.

Honestly, I think it's the excessively long span of the plot that messed it up... I think the next game should be a bit less extreme. Then things might make slightly more sense.

OP there are multiples way to stop a pregnancy using lamb intestine is one of them. Or use herbs teas as "remedies".
Today many people in 3er world countries use some types of "teas" to stop pregnancy, doctors aren't around in small towns.

If you didn't agree with Morrigan about the DR and you romanced her, she has a baby with the Warden. It's shown in the epilogue slides.

So I romanced her and agreed to go through the DR with her and she still has the baby? That makes no sense to me, but since I'm was and still am under the impression that magic and the DR was the ONLY way to get her pregnant (reguardless of who the father was), I'll quit on this subject for now.

Maybe Anders was giving Isabela a magical STD cure at the start of Act 2 of Dragon Age II?

As confirmed by David Gaider:

If Morrigan was able to perform the Dark Ritual with anyone (Warden, Loghain, or Alistair) then she was pregnant with a child with the old-god soul.

If the Warden had sex with Morrigan, but did not do the Dark Ritual, she is pregnant with a normal baby.

Otherwise, there is no baby at all.

No, you probably misunderstood my post (or I wasn't clear).
if you rejected Morrigan's offer of doing the DR, she left the party. If you romanced her, in the epilogue slides she has a baby. She can have a baby with the Warden even if the DR wasn't done.

Active women womb sometimes fall, making us hard to get pregnant.

Look at Hawke and Aveline...both are active jumping here and there, running here and there...Aveline got married for how long with no children...

They probably have knowledge of contraceptives in Thedas.  In our medieval times, did people have such knowledge?  Unknown, debated.  But it doesn't really matter what's the case in our world, as Thedas is different.  Things just need to be consistent, make sense and resonate in Thedas.  We have to be able to make sense of it.  Can I buy into the idea that there's some known contraceptive in Thedas?  Sure.  So that's likely what's going on.  If not that, Hawke or his lover can't be a parent.  Or they're very lucky (or unlucky, depending on their goals).  We don't know which is the explanation, but there is some explanation.  I imagine the contraceptive explanation is the most likely though.

It'd be pretty damn weird if my FemHawke had been able to impregnate Merrill... :innocent:

I assumed there was contraception. In one conversation between Bethany and Aveline Aveline says that she and Wesley never had children because they always thought there would be time for it later. This, to me, implies that pregnancies can be planned and are not always chance events. Therefore, I assume contraception exists.

We may compare Dragon Age world fertility to the old world fertility. So yep, having children in that time was probably harder.

I was under the impression that there were contraceptives like potions one could take, spells, primitive condoms, etc.

... I can't believe we're having a discussion about this.

It just didn't happen? Some couples are together for many years, with unprotected sex, without ever conceiving a child.

With that said, as I played DA2 and the years passed by and by... I did wonder if it would have been neat to have an optional family storyline going. You know shacked up with Aveline, cute red head babies running around. And yes, AVELINE! Those hips are made for babies. Plus, damn the writers for making the only non-crazy female not romancable. AVELINE FTW.

Umm. Yeah. Rant done. :)

Did you serious just invoke 'child bearing hips' logic?  dot dot dot

I think most stop at "UNF THOSE HIPS". (Replace hips with whatever body part the person fixates).

Yes I know. Tis nauseating indeed, but it's still a curious subject.

...It's the only thing I really didn't like about studying biology.

There are actually reasons for that thinking, you know. Like, physical and biological reasons.

Same reason as those women thinking "UNF, BROAD SHOULDERS AND A SQUARE JAW, HE COULD PROTECT ME, THAT'S SO HOT."

Certain features of the body do suggest better fertility or genetic strength and we may perceive them as being more attractive sometimes

but i don't think most people take that into actual account and think about how many babies they will have with an attractive person, just saying

Uh. No.
There are societal reasons as to why certain builds are considered more desirable, which change from society to society and across time. Biology has little to do with it.
