Interesting shift from making babies to focusing on the means of nourishing them.
When did we start talking about beef jerky?
Also, why are my children so malnourished?

I realize you're poking fun, but in response, and in all seriousness, I wish EA would allow BW to get away with character nudity where it is perfectly natural for them to be nude, like sex scenes. Underwear sex in DA:O and even worse, that fully-clothed shower scene in ME 3 were just downright embarassing; it would have been better to just not include those scenes than give us what we got. Do they really care that much about what a crappy, disreputable news network like Fox has to say about it?
I doubt Fox or EA's opinion has anything to do with it. Video game nudity just looks weird, and Bioware is aware of the cost of making it look not-weird. I realize we can be talking about two different things -- nudity as in "genitals on screen" or nudity as in "implied nudity" where no nipples/genitals appear on screen. It's a topic for a different thread but I often wonder which people are asking for.

Oh yeah, and intestines. And even crocodile feces. All kinds of lovely.
However, there's nothing to clarify whether or not stuff like that exists in Thedas.

I'm confused why people think contraception is the only way to avoid pregnancy.

Discussion wasn't awkward enough for you, eh?
If you interpretated that how I think you have, that's not what I meant.Emzamination wrote...

With that said, as I played DA2 and the years passed by and by... I did wonder if it would have been neat to have an optional family storyline going. You know shacked up with Aveline, cute red head babies running around. And yes, AVELINE! Those hips are made for babies. Plus, damn the writers for making the only non-crazy female not romancable. AVELINE FTW.
Umm. Yeah. Rant done.
Did you serious just invoke 'child bearing hips' logic? dot dot dot
The thought that dudes actually think "UNF THOSE HIPS COULD BEAR AND CARRY MY SPAWN, THAT'S SO HOT" is making me recoil in horror

Biologically hips do, or perhaps "can" is more apropo, widen with pregnancy. Which is where the fertility perception comes from initially not from a differing cultural opinion of what is beauty/womanly. The biological change bred the perception, the perception gets picked up as a cultural measuring stick, the impression is then continually retaught and re-observed.
OMG I can't get over having to justify this. LOL Is this what the world is now? It's some sort of stupid oppression or sexist behavior to make note of a valid, but tongue-in-cheek observation about a body type? Seriously? I'm 34 years old, married 14 years, 4 kids between 14 years and 4 months, been with my wife for 19 years. I've been a Mr. Mom for 11 years now by request from my wife. Yeah. Do that "math". I know the lyrics to every Barbra Streisand musical. I am Kevin Kline in In & Out sans the actual you know... gayness. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I sincerely [hope] not, I might be in the running for the least sexist, lecherous male you ever talk to. Aveline was awesome, and I made a reference to Aveline's body type OMG bring out the torches! Burn him.
Can you imagine what their reaction was when they found out in the 50's. HA!Harle Cerulean wrote...
First, Wynne talks about there being "ways to prevent [pregnancy]" in a conversation. Contraceptives exist in Thedas, which makes perfect sense, since women have been coming up with ways, some more effective, some less, to prevent it pretty much ever since a connection was made between sex and pregnancy. Extremely effective, safe contraception is relatively recent, yes, but condoms and other physical barriers, of various materials, have been used for hundreds of years.
And even discounting that, it's entirely possible to have unprotected sex for years without getting pregnant. My mother and my father were married, and having sex, for eight years, before my mother conceived my older sister. Anders, as a Grey Warden, has low fertility. It's not impossible, but it's unlikely. It's also entirely possible that it's more difficult for a human to get an elf pregnant, and Isabela undoubtedly uses contraceptives. You think she wants a kid? Hah.
