First of all; Hey guys and gals, I hope everyone is enjoying a good morning/day/evening/night :)

Okay, so I want to throw around a few ideas for the devs and fans for the upcoming DA3. I do not expect this thread to be the book of law for the devs or anything like that; just little suggetions and nothing more.

Let's talk about romances in the game :) Now, when I say "romances" I do NOT mean the sex scene we normally get at the end. This is fine I suppose, but right now I mean an actual romance. I imagine the wolrd of Dragon Age to have some really nice places; places that are perfect for romantic settings.

Let's start with a male dwarf, shall we? Suppose our female human takes a great interest in our Dwarven male, or vise versa. Instead of the normal, "Hey, I like you and I'm interested in you." "Oh? I like you too! I have some issues, but help me with them and I'm yours." approach, let's flip it around a bit. Let one of them (the human or dwarf) bring the height difference into the mix; or  their different cultures and lifestyles (if there are any differences there) and get them talking to each other. Maybe then, instead of just telling them you like them and a relationship is started, the two of them are actually talking about getting AROUND certain barriers that could otherwise prohibit such a relationship.

Next is an example of a female Qunari :) Things can be REALLY interesting with this. Our human male can try to send hints of how he feels, only to be bluntly rejected; not because she's simply a mean Qunari, but because for her, there is no reason to even consider a relationship with a human who is smaller and probably weaker than she is. This isn't the overused formula of "the lady who must have her icy heart melted." It is simply about our male protagonist showing her even a SMALL reason to consider even batting an eyelash his way. So he talks to her about her people, her culture, whether or not she is from the Qun and if so what are her true feelings about it. We get him to show that he has an interest not in WHAT she is (A Qunari) but WHO she is (as a person). So he's talking to her, getting to know her, but also causing her to go from a blunt "no" to a "maybe this isn't as impossible as I thought." We can throw in a few conversations under a night sky, or maybe a good game of hunting or a show of strength (if she's not the under the stars kind of gal:lol:) Anyway, he gets all these little moment to buld their way to her heart, so at some point (maybe the middle of the game) she decides that maybe, just MAYBE overlooking such oddities, and differences is truly worth it....if HE is that person. And if it IS him, then maybe she is willing to risk her feelings, and cast her doubts aside for this smaller being, with the hopes that though it may not be an easy road ahead, it will certainly be a road worth traveling. From this point, the relation starts and moves on to a success or a failure depending on his actions throughout the rest of the game.

Sooooo, what do you lovely gals and guys think about this? Does this sound like something you would want? Or hate? Or maybe you are simply indifferent about it all. Does it interest you or have no effect at all? Comment and let me know how you feel. Take care everyone

Oops lol Sorry, I didn't know there was already a thread like this. And my fiance didn't tell me when I told her I was going to make this thread *looks in her direction sternly* lol Well then...I guess this thread can be closed for being a duplication of another. My apologies devs :)

No, it wasn't the same thread as this.

But the idea behind it was the same.

Romances in these games should be interwoven with the story as far as I am concerned. They should feel relevant to what happens, and have maybe some kind of impact on the plot.

I do not really want "dates" or anything like that if I am being perfectly honest. I want an RPG with engaging (not engaged, you crazy people) characters and an engaging plot. Romances can make this happen to an extent, but they need to fit in, not stand out.

Simply put, if I wanted a dating game, I'd go play one.

I felt Liara was a good example of how a romance could fit in with the plot if they had chosen to do it. In Mass Effect 3 when she shows the 'memory box' she made to record all data on the Reapers and the war involving them, they could have made that scene have more of an impact for Shepards who romanced her by changing some of the dialogue around to reflect it.

That'd be a good example of plot relevant romance.

I would just prefer that we didn't just get the sex scene and boom romance over. Sort of like Mass Effect. I would prefer more interaction besides he sex scene and thats it. I liked them in Origins can Morrigan goes from being your friend. To be intereted in you. Which turns into a physical interest. Finally after a while she falls in love with you but doesn't want to so you can confront her about it. Which I really enjoyed about her romance subplot.

yes, i agree with that, and the romance in Dragon Age 2 was very disappointing, compared with the romances in Dragon Age Origins. And as Back_For_You_My_Love said.. it would be more interesting, if relationships not only would happen, especially with a different background of the characters.
Also, i would like to see, that a relationship needs to worked on. It´s kinda boring, when the romance started and nothing special happens, what shows, that this two belong together.

This is rather creepy and fetishistic. Also totally beyond the scope of most video game romances, relegated to specific "dating RPGs" like Thousand Arms.

I don't see what the character's race has anything to do with it. Basically I think of the 'romance' as me wanting to know more about one character over another. If the dwarf isn't an interesting character, it doesn't matter about his/her height difference. These are fictional polygonal characters, I don't really care about the logistics of how their non-existent genitalia work together.

Some people really need to get out more. And this is from someone who doesn't get out much.

It seems Bioware has tapped into that creepy audience that doesn't even care about RPG's. All they want is a digital relationship where they're in complete control.

****ing creeps.

Doesn't Sten kinda imply that sex with a Qunari is extremely painful for non Qunari?
