My favorite Bioware romance is Bastilla. Not because I like her character (she was pretty good, but kinda annoying at times) but because it was so important to the story. The main plot included HUGE points that involved the Revan/Bastilla romance and that made it feel more a part of the story rather than just something tacked on.

Also why I liked romancing Alistair or marrying Anora (not really a romance but w/e). They were tied into the main story too. I loved that Alistair dumped my Elven Mage because he was King and needed an Heir and an 'Acceptable Wife'. Morrigans romance sadly didnt tie into the main story as much as it could have since even if you arent romancing her the Dark Choice thingy happens the same. Leliana and Zev were the most removed from the main plot and so were so-so for me.

DA2 had NO romances that added to the main plot. Even Anders does nothing different if you romance him. Big step backwards.

ME romances were generally also disconnected from the main story (Liara is kinda an exception, but even that wasn't as good as it could have been).

Am I the only one who cares about the plot? I agree that characters is what makes a plot even stronger. Especially when they are tied to it in some way. I agree that Bastila felt fitting but the rest on your list feels slightly more of a "preference".

Out of all seriousness I only though the relationship between Revan and Bastila (even in a very vague romance) is the most fitting.

I would like it if the LI was encouraging and helpful to the protagonist rather than always be the other way around (helping Morrigan, helping Merrill).

Though I did like the whole "im interested, we can't do this, oh my duty and personal feelings are conflicting" thing with Morrigan.

So much this. People always wonder why every LI would just fall in love with the hero, but I think the better question is "Why would Hawke fall in love with any of them when all they ever do is beg for her/his help?". xD
Sometimes I'd just like the LI to take a moment to ask "Hey, are you allright?" and not be fooled by a simple "Yeah, sure".

Well if you think about it, Hawke/Warden, take along the companions where ever he/she likes and never asks if they want to come lol an risks their lifes every 5mins compared to the LI asking for help once or twice over the game lol.

It's never..

Warden in camp:

Warden: Right we're of to free the mages! Whos with me? :)
Leliana: I'll help you! :kissing:

It's always..

Warden: We are are going to free the mages! Shut up and obey! :bandit:
Leliana: :(

Seen over a dozen of these threads about this. We all want better romances with more to them. Not sure if Bioware will do it though... I like having both RPG and Dating Sim in 1. Usually you need an Date Sim/ VN to get that fix gaming wise. Very few RPGs have them. i too wish Bioware would put more effort into the romances. Like special quest, events, conversations to build more to the relationship your starting etc. But they might need more writers...

Characters should stay strictly with others of their own race. Still remember leveling a horde character in WoW to 70 just to kill a the only half-elf npc in the game, Arator.

... wow I have problems.

what's wrong with a kossith and dwarf in love? absolutely nothing eventhough it would be a "short" romance.

Romance sim, here we come. I mean if that's what most fans want they might as well make that the core focus.

Well, without these threads, the devs don´t know, what the played would like to see. I hope, they care about. It would make the game amazing and far more personal :)

It's amazing to see how many people fail to actually UNDERSTAND what the OP's actually talking about here. Facepalmworthy at best.

I'm curious what about the Bastila romance made it so connected to the plot whereas Anders' romance was apparently entirely unrelated because nothing was different.

I mean, romanced Bastila still has the force bond with Revan, still falls to the dark side, and can still be redeemed back to the light on the star forge. Her romance is only connected to the plot by virtue of her character being connected to the plot, which seems like a seperate issue.

It's just the same refrain about wish fulfillment that amounts to arbitrary, selectively applied standards that's being tossed around with cult-like zeal these days.

Ivandra!!! Hey there!! Good to see you around the forums! *hugs* :)

@Sternchen, good to see you as well beautiful :kissing:

Yeah...it's REALLY shocking how many people fail to understand what this thread is about. I thought I made my thoughts pretty clear, honestly. I was going to try changing it, but I can see that you, and Stern as well as a few others understand the post, so there is no reason to change it at all :D
