I am pleased to announce that I am releasing the first half of my Mass Effect Dissertation eBook!

At 27,000 words, this half of the project contains every article I wrote prior to the release of Mass Effect 3, heavily revised and edited to meet a more professional standard. I am very happy to get this first edition out for you to read, and I look forward to hearing your feedback. I wholeheartedly welcome any suggestions for future improvements.

Work continues on Book Two, but it is still a fair way off from being completed. As I made clear several months ago, I will be waiting until Mass Effect 3′s stream of Single-Player DLC ends before I commit to finishing it entirely. The best I can give you right now is a general target date of Quarter 2 2013.

Enjoy!

The whole Cerberus-Alliance connenction would be interesting if no for Mass Effect 3's horrible portrayel of Cerberus, which by the way your article enteritly neglects.

Did you, ah, read the forward?

This half was written BEFORE the release of Mass Effect 3.

So why realise it now ? The game's been out for more then half a year now, or revise it first and then release it?

Because I decided to, and because several people requested it.

It is entirely irrelevant.

That's very generous.

When I'm about the release a book or publish an article I prefer to make sure it's content is accurate and up to date.

Fixers, the entire point of this half of the eBook is that I'm deliberately releasing the OLD content in an eBook form for people to HAVE rather than seeing it collecting dust and going to WASTE.

Book Two is entirely focused on everything Mass Effect 3, and will, for example, be dealing with issues like Cerberus' representation in the game.

And as i've said you're very generous, and i'll do admit that document does remind be of better times. But i'd just thought it would be wiser if some remarks were added that the majority of this stuff is based upon outdated content or small edits' like "Prior to Mass Effect 3".

I HAVE mentioned that.

Read the forward. Read the Abstract. Read the Conclusion.

To some extent, but i see little effort into warning the readers that some content (Cerberus) is much outdated and can practically be thrown into the dustbin.

If it really worries you that much, Fixers, I'll be sure to add a disclaimer the next time I update it.

Question for the op, is this a dissertation for an advanced degree, or is this all stuff you've done for yourself/others informally?  The foreword makes it clear you wrote this for 'the internet', but I am just wondering if you had other motivation (like pursuing an advanced degree in the humanities).

And you're a total dickwad.  If this stuff is mentioned in the abstract, foreword, and conclusion then it is your deffect if you couldn't figure it out.  Putting that sort of information in 3 places (one of which is mandatory reading even if you don't read the rest of the work), isn't good enough for you?  Wow.  Really?  Incredible.  Putting it in the abstract alone should be good enough for an informal topic like this, putting it in the foreword and conclusion make it professional and top notch, putting a giant ass disclaimer is just overkill.

I actually remember reading your blog about the Lazarus project once, it was well made and actually made me look foward even more to ME3 since I could actually see Bioware pulling such a smart move.

I've had no other conscious motivation in doing this, no. I initially just wanted to ease the pain of waiting for Mass Effect 3. I suppose it looks good on any future portfolio I put together in the event I consider employment in games 'journalism', but I haven't really thought much about it.

It's just about sharing in a passion for something with others, and getting one's name out there.

Is it so hard to act civil? I really want to know.

I'm just pointing out here that even though carefully written, this document contains outdated and at some points even inaccurate information,

There is no reason why anyone should go out of their way to appease people who misunderstand the point of their work because these people failed to read things everyone should read anyway (abstract, foreword, conclusion, etc.).  The author is beyond nice for adding a disclaimer, but the author had no reason to do this because it was your misunderstanding, a misunderstanding that is easily remedied by actually reading the abstract and foreword.  After reading those the purpose of publishing something like this is bleeding obvious.

Demanding that the author fixes this problem, a problem that is a personal problem, is asinine.  Sure, I could have been more civil about it, but this is the BSN.

I'm not demanding anything, i just want to inform the auther that some of the content within his work is outdated, as in being completly overhauled or inconsistent with given information.

A disclaimer has been added. You can re-download the PDF if you like to see it.

If it's ok, I'd appreciate it if we just put it behind us now.

I've read this before when I was browsing these forums pre-ME3 and before I made my BSN account. To be honest, I was looking for it again (I googled your blog but couldn't find the BSN thread).

As a side note, OP, bboynexus, you were the first "long" BSN story-oriented post that I read, and that kind of spurred me to create other long posts on BSN when I first joined some months ago (you can see my sig to get an idea). Basically, I never would've written textwalls if I hadn't read yours first lol.

Anyways, glad I finally found who wrote that stuff long ago. Good job, and thanks.
