Is it just me or are there lots of high N7s playing bronze right now?

But heres what makes me scratch my head: Why are you pugging? Solo bronze. That way you get all the points toward your challenge and you don't make real bronze players' games snoozefests as you wtfpwn everything in sight.

Maybe they were were campers and are going back to learn the game, N7 doesn't mean anything, the banners, well many of them, can be obtained in bronze....there are only a few banners that may give you insight to the ability of the player....in any event, it's there game, they can play what ever level they wish.
What banners give you insight?

It is very relaxing.
It has nothing to do with skill, it's just casual fun.
I even get nice messages when I run lower difficulties because I make stoping sync kills / reviving my team priority.

But maybe they're tired of blowing all their gel and getting reamed by the imbalanced post-patch characters like Geth Bombers, Dragoons, Collectors, etc. Bronze is the old Silver, Silver is the old Gold, etc. I know I have a lot less fun playing Silver than I did before the patch, so I mostly stick to Bronze.

I usually just start solo and let others join my lobby if i want to do some Bronze or Silver for the challenges or if i want to relax after frustrating PUGs on Gold or Platinum.

Map Mastery definitely, since it shows you've at least been able to play a good number of gold matches to completion. Solo Mastery, maybe. It's not particularly difficult to cheese gold solos if you know what you're doing, but it at least means you know enough to be able to cheese a gold solo.

N7 3Ks aren't high 23K sounds pretty high imo. N7 3K actually at this point in time sound like they belong in bronze/silver.
A 3000 N7 would put you in the top 1%. That would also indicate around 600h of gameplay. Somebody with 600 hours of game would have played around 1,800 games. I'm pretty sure that they would be ready for gold and platinum.
I have an N7 of 1590, and that's still good enough for the top 1%. Either way, tons of people don't bother to pointlessly promote. I only do sometimes to spice up the game and play at lower levels.

I have been playing Bronze a lot more for two reasons.
1 - After promoting - I can rank a character up to a lvl 6-8 quickly and head back into Silver or Gold.
2 - I don't have to use consumables when I am low.

The challenges have caused a lot of us to both promote and use lower-tier weapons. Thus many of us high N7 players are now playing bronze matches with crappier weapons at low levels while leveling our characters up.
this.
and there are a few characters and weapons i am not comfortable with going into a gold match with. not a big fan of the krogan...so im weary of using them in gold. a drell...i would use in a gold match. im weird like that. Im used to faster and squisher characters. bigger beefier cumbersome ones....not so much

Regarding N7 rankings allegedly meaning nothing: I disagree. Generally speaking, they give some indication to a players skill level, more times than they don't. Yes, their are some exceptions. I have a few friends with lowish N7 ratings who play very well indeed. However, most other players at their rank in Gold--do not.
My only criticism of higher N7s (3500+) is that a mentionable number of them lack skills in game etiquette (i.e., suddenly leave, expect to be revived--even if their playstyle is reckless, or are reluctant to use consumables).
These findings are based on experiences during the 1801 games I have, thus far, played.

It's because of the number of waves completed... Each bronze game takes 15 min, sometimes even 12, compared to 20+ min per match.
Sometimes as short as 10 to 12 minutes.
