Also, after ME3 and then AC3, what'll one-up the AC3 ending in horribleness? Dead Space? Colonial Marines? Crysis?

Angry Birds.  Calling it.

Crysis 3, I bet my ass on it.

Can we please have the rest of the gaming media rising up to call the AC3 ending "haters" entitled whiners?

I'd love to see just how stupid garme jurnalizm can be.

Apples and oranges.

Here, it appears as if you're absolutely forced to lose when presented with options, and the game makes that penultimate choice for you.

I agree. Like, why copy something so widely reviled to end a successful series with?

I think the parallel people are drawing is the fact you have to do what the baddies say to save the world.

There is however a more important parallel to make that makes the ending even worse. Its effectively a complete and utter rip from The Matrix Revolution/Revelations.

Newsflash: nothing under the Sun in storytelling is new. It's just people repackaging old stuff. Consider Pocahontas and Avatar.

How they made Bane until the ending was amazing.

Iron Man 3 looks like its gonna be a good movie

Heroes, there is no such thing. :bandit:

Truer words have never been spoken.

Shepard certainly wasn't a hero. He/She either got everyone harvested, destroyed the Mass Relays, became a power-hungry Reaper god or made everyone green.

Mandarin > Bane

What if Mac Walters is Mandarin? :o It all makes sense now!

Mandarin's too cool for that Image IPB

The AC series would have been 10x better if they had a villain who was Mandarin/Bane/Retribution Kai Leng fuses into one

Cesare Borgia was a great villain in Brotherhood, it's too bad he had a total of about 20 minutes on the game. He's the equivalent of Venom.

it's not the end. There was a very clear To Be Continued.

Until your marine can only kill the xenomorphs once and for all by hitting a button and unleashing space magic. Also, you die.... from hitting a button. The button makes you die.

Except that the better stories do a better job at hiding their derivative-ness (can that be a word? Please?), wheras AC3 just stinks of Matrix.

They should have kept that but gave the new one more than 20 minutes

So am I to understand in a game about playing as an asssasin ninja, you're offered a choice of destroy, control or synthesis?

Fair point. And sure, you can make up words if you want to be like Dane Cook and say things like concernicus.

Just Control and Refuse. Then the game picks for you after asking you for input.

No, that's not actually what happens. People around here are so ME3 centered, they don't realize how different the ending of AC3 actually is. The storyline is completely different.

I was pleasantly surprised with Dishonored, considering the rather standard intro.

That is a bit insane but considering all the marines are supposed to die....as long as it makes sense and is well done which imo both ac 3 anf me 3 do i will have no issue.

It's been going on for a while now actually. It's really become the new cliche.

DKR was sorta the exception but even then they gave the villains a sob story. Ugh that was horrible.

There's even a nice green color!

But wow, glad I never invested myself in AC. Wouldn't want to handle another disappointment like that.

Yep. I feel bad for those who care about the story, but I'm just as excited as ever to go roaming through revolution-era America, leaping off buildings and stabbing bad guys.

So 2012's been tainted with heresy of bleak endings to great franchises?

Yeah, Connor needs an anti-hero.

Shepard had Kai Leng, but then... you know... cerealz

It's not just a 2012 or video game phenomena it began a while ago. I'd say it started last decade with the Matrix sequels.
