What is bleak the new trend or something?

It's been going on for a while now actually. It's really become the new cliche.

So 2012's been tainted with heresy of bleak endings to great franchises?

It's not just a 2012 or video game phenomena it began a while ago. I'd say it started last decade with the Matrix sequels.

I wouldn't say the matrix ending was bleak. Just stupid, and poorly executed.

Wow this is a pretty bad year for gaming then. First ME3, then the new Resident Evil game, and now AC3?

RE6 was decent at worst. It needs polish, but its story is still good and untainted. Not to mention the new characters felt 3 dimensional or interesting at least.

I agree. It's not amazing but it's a solid title that didn't deserve the critical hate.

Also, how come nobody talks about Spec Ops, Dishonored or Darksiders II. I wasn't disappointed by any of those.

Spec Ops ending was alittle weird, but I liked the other two

Spec Ops has one of the best endings I've ever seen in a videogame.

This is why the ending to TDKR was such a breath of fresh air.

Now to wait 4 months for the AC3 Extended Cut. Also time for conspiracy theories. Maybe it was all a dream (inside the already virtual reality)?

Boy, I'm for a treat then.

I wonder what happened to the people with open minds, guess they left the internet a long time ago.

Nonsense, I remember the internet's rage at Star Wars: The Phantom Menace when it was released. They couldn't accept its gloriousness; they were too close-minded.

It is the way it's always been. Personally, I'm so open-minded that my brain's fallen out. Glad to see you're that way too.

It's a shame that franchise doesn't have mind-controlling antagonists.

You know what, the ending doesn't matter to me.

Did they do the parkour right in this games more wooded environments? That's the bigger question for me.

Who cares about endings. It's all about eagle jumping off of skyscrapers only to land in a conveniently placed haystack.

It's all a ruse. Desmond never got out of the Animus. It was all a dream. Too bad there's no choice that dictates whether he wakes up from the Animus or not (see what I did thar with the IT parallels?).

It's the Animusization Theory. I'm going to pay for trademarking rights immediately.

Hell, maybe the entire AC franchise---including the future, and Desmond---is a fever dream in Altair's mind after falling too hard during his first leap of faith.

Core game mechanic, should be fine.

We'll just call that the haystack theory.

Um huge assassins Creed fan and uh what's the problem? It's a very intriguing ending that leaves you wanting more.

Desmond dies with no warning whatsoever. The Assassin's compromise their ideals and agree with the Templar ideology. It's copying the worst part of ME3 that was so bad that the devs had to fix it. Juno wins and enslaves humanity which is even worse than the Templars winning. The series is over and it ends on a terrible note.

The seies is not over. This is not the last AC GAME or story. It's a be continued.

Bioware and Ubisoft are in on one giant project that requires all the DLC of both franchises including the promotional day one items in order to unlock the super secret planned endings of both games that will reveal the truth about Shepard and Desmond.

Better yet, IIRC, there was a thread on the AC forums about how Altair's religion or the order or something in association smoked certain herbs.

So it was all a dream that Altair had after some really bad Kush.

@Sovereign, **** that ****, I have wings.

The AC story was set to be dumb from the beginning. The end of AC2 verified that.

ME went dumb at the very end with no warning.

Well, ME did go dumb a few times before that; although nothing of quite that magnitude...

The Pope as a final boss fight had me rolling on the floor in tears. So audacious it wrapped around back to epic.

A bare knuckles brawl with the pope, I forgot how halarious AC2 ended.
