I have played a number of games where I had to choose a certain dialogue option before the timer expired (alpha protocole, Witcher, ect.) where it would choose an option for me or would simply have your character not respond.

TBH I really enjoyed this system and wondered if people think such as system would be cool to have in Dragon Age, discuss or let the thread die, I don't care.=]

Also, this would be much more realistic for all you who keep saying the game needs to be more realistic like the combat. I mean it's not like you sit there blankly while the enemy waits for your answer... Or do you?

I vote no, for purely selfish reasons.

I have twin children, and often find myself having to jump up from my computer to deal with some other unpredictable situation in real life. I need to ability to just tap a button to pause (or, as in conversation, just do nothing).

Why do people crave realism in a FANTASY game?

I wouldn't mind it in specific pressure situations. Like when the player is making the equivalent of a persuade check.

I don't want it in general play. I prefer to have time to decipher the paraphrases and work out what is appropriate to my character, rather than having to just go with the icon because I'm in a rush.

No thank you. That was the one thing I didn't like about Alpha Protocol. Honestly, those pauses where it's waiting for me to choose a response are times I choose to refill a drink or get some food or use the restroom really quickly, it's almost a tradition now with Bioware games :D

Also, I like to actually think about my response on a few of the more meaningful choices.

Timed conversations as just as bad as QTEs.

Edited out parts of the quoted post to give an explanation as to why I personally do not want timed convos.

I'll go with no, as well.  I actually like to be able to skip through conversations.  I'll pay attention to everything the first time I go through each choice, but after that all I want to do is skip through some of the long, boring scenes.  When I can't skip, then I get up and do something else.  Dialogue is my chance to go to get up from the computer for a second. :P

I was actually mocking them with the realism statement.

The only thing i didnt like when it comes to dialogue in Alpha Protocol - being rushed is never fun, when when it makes a conversation flow at a normal speed, that slight bit of realism is not enough to make me like the idea.

teehee, imagine the context:

Miranda, the deviant apostate-terrorist-mage with a complex, onion-layers-like heart-of-gold: "Player, a lava flow approaches! Your thoughts!?"

Player:
Diplomatic: "We should respectfully run from in the opposite direction of the flow; no need to offend our imminent deaths."
Troll: "Bet you wish your volcano was hot like me"? /trollface
Bastard: "Idiot. Let's run"

(real player thinks on response to miranda)

*two seconds later*

Forced cutscene:

Miranda: "You took too long to respond, now we are burn-OH MY MAKER, IT BURNS!"

YOUR JOURNEY ENDS HERE

It never really bothered me in a game like Alpha Protocol, but I'd rather not have it.

And I doubt it will be implemented when there are hints to some developers liking the idea of pausing cutscenes, that's sort of the opposite direction.

I liked them in Alpha Protocol and the Walking Dead. They add an element of tension in certain situations where you gotta think fast.

THat said, it's understandable that some people wouldn't like them, and of course there's the problem of being distracted by RL matters...
