I built this system with three points in mind;
1) The ME experience is heavily manifest based (if you don't believe me play with a noob or start a new account, you will miss even your Eagle IV).
2) We want some way of trading our manifest that will be for the benefit of both new and experienced players.
3) Those on the giving side should not be factories - they should not be grinding out UR's for everyone, and they should not be able to make a ton of money off of this.
With those points in mind let's take a look at the system;
You can gift weapons/characters to other players on your friends list. They obtain that weapon at one rank higher than previously (rank I if they didn't have it, IV if they had it at III, etc.). Your rank in that weapon goes down by 3 (X to VII, for example), if it's a character it looses 4 ranks (locking it unless you had max customization - BF3 would be a special case). You can only gift weapons / characters twice, be it to the same or different person. If the person you are gifting to already has the weapon / character maxed it doesn't go through and allows you to gift to someone else.
How does it meet the 3 points above;
1) It allows new players to obtain some characters / weapons that will assist them in playing, such that they don't start out with a totally crappy manifest. It hopefully allows people to get characters that they really want to and will play, hopefully increasing their playtime.
2) Experienced players may get rid of a weapon / character that they never use. If a trade is brokered, then the experienced player may end up with a few new ranks in their favorite weapon in exchange. For example, if you're a group of friends, then she who is good at sniping may pick up a few SR's from the others and the whole team dynamic benifits.
3) By capping the number of trades, people won't hopefully just grind out UR's for others, or similarly 'sell' the weapons for cash, etc. Granted, they still could sell their manifest, but only twice.
Why I think this system would work;
Overall 2 or more weapon points are lost per trade, it would actually go towards reducing the total weapon points in circulation, fostering more transactions in the store system. Hopefully, it wouln't be greatly monetized outside of the EA store. Finally, players get a system whereby they don't have to wait for the RNG system to become favorable for them to start using a weapon. People will still have to work to get it to X, but you now have less of an arbitrary starting point.
Problems that I see;
Level 4 ammo could once again be a problem, in reducing people's ability to re-build their character manifest, but I don't think this will matter much.
People could still grind out a manifest or two for cash, and BW would never see a cut. They could do this again (new account), but it would mean starting from an empty manifest.
New players could play the one character that they like, then never come back, and never get addicited in the first place.
Maybe loosing 3 weapon ranks isn't enough, perhaps it should be 4 or 5?
Now, assuming that BW could even implement this (the technical implications of working with Origin make me shudder), I ask you, the community, to pick this plan apart - how would it not work? If we can work out all the problems, perhaps BW would actually consider implementing something like this.
Tell me what you think.
