Though I also agree with terdferguson123 . For me, DA2 was, by and large, sucessful in giving companions lives away from the PC. It was a little odd in Origins, but at least in DA2 you could pretend that you could only find/gather 3 of your friends before you head out. Seems perfectly plausible (if a little coincidental that it's always that same number).

With all the arguing that goes on between the party members, I can well understand why a PC wouldn't want to take them all.

Heck, a DA2 party with Merrill, Anders and Fenris in it isn't exactly Teamwork City. At least two of them are constantly busy snipping about the other two.
