The Walt Disney Company has agreed to acquire Lucasfilm Ltd. in a stock and cash transaction. Lucasfilm is 100% owned by Lucasfilm Chairman and Founder, George Lucas.

"
Ms. Kennedy will serve as executive producer on new Star Wars feature films, with George Lucas serving as creative consultant. Star Wars Episode 7 is targeted for release in 2015, with more feature films expected to continue the Star Wars saga and grow the franchise well into the future."

Thoughts?

So far Disney isn't doing bad with Marvel who didn't love The Avengers? Here's hoping they can save Star Wars and if they can't well the prequels ruined it for many of us anyway.

I... I can't even. My world is shattered.

Gonna wait to see who they get to write and direct the film. The prequel movies were the ending of Mass Effect 3 spread thin over six hours, so my interest in the films has waned.

Star Wars 7?

I liked the prequel trilogy, mainly because i grew up on them. I remember watching Phantom Menace non-stop. Loved it.

I was gob smacked when my grandad told me of the original series. I was really upset the battle droids were not in it.

...hmm I'll wait to see what my reactions for this will be. Willing to bet Ep7 will either be about Thrawn (with the return of palps in 8) or it will be the Vong War.

Either of those I may want to see.

Star Wars died after episode 1. I'm more interested in how much more they can ruin the lore of the original films.

$100 says that the Sith really weren't defeated, the ending to episode 6 was meaningless, and Jar Jar is alive and a jedi master now.

"As the first book opens, the Rebellion, now known as the New Republic, is still fighting to mop up final Imperial resistance and set up a functional government. Out in the fringes of the galaxy, the most brilliant of all the hand-picked Grand Admirals is gaining strength and preparing to attack the New Republic. After convincing a Dark Jedi to join his side, Grand Admiral Thrawn is confident of his victory."

I sure wouldn't mind a film adaptation of the books.

If this means Thrawn trilogy on film, I'm okay with this.

That trilogy was good, but 99% of the other stuff out there is lore ruining garbage.

I think it depends on how they pull it off and in what audience it's envisioned for. I liked the original trilogy, although I'm not a big fan of the universe. The prequels I didn't even go to see in the cinema, and when I did watch them I thought they were decidedly meh. Only highlight was Ray Parks played Darth Maul, the guy's an awesome Martial artist and stunt man. That's about it for the prequels.

Edit

As to all the rest of the stuff they've come out with lately, the cartoons and tv things. Yeeeeah. Never bothered to even take a look. I refuse to aknowledge it's existence.

I  like how you think.

I don't know how I'd feel with them continuing the whole Luke/Han/Leia type continuity since they'd need to recast at this point but the Thrawn trilogy was pretty great. At least that's what I thought when I read them ages ago.

I'm expecting that, Dark Empire, or the Vong. Heck maybe we'll get all three of them down the line. Now they could throw a curve ball and jump on the 2nd civil war given most of the original cast is old enough for those roles lulz.

Disney has done great things for Marvel. Stop being so close minded.
