Really? I thought that Thrawn was awesome and extremely smart. The irony is that Thrawn over looked the situation and never expected what happened to him they'll happen. I also liked Mara Jade, she sorta felt like a mix of Han with Luke. I thoght that was cool. When i first read it, it almost felt like I was reading a yet to be made Star Wars film. I could hear John William's score in my head as I read the scenes. But if you don't think that they are going to keep the New Jedi Order/ Republic Era, what era do you think they going to do for episode VII?

Thrawn had to know that actually restoring the Noghri planet would get him their undying loyalty for real. Instead he did the opposite. Really stupid for someone that smart. And let´s not get into how studying the art allowed him to defeat armies. Unless he was so lucky he only ever thought cultures with one kind of art whose military leaders had the same mindset as their artists. That said, in Outbound Flight I found him much beliebable, but in TTT? No way.
Mara Jade lost me the moment Luke had the vision were she stole his lightsaber. No way that would happen to RotJ Luke. The whole mission also felt forced to give her a personal stake against Luke, but it clashed with what we saw in the film. I also usually dislike characters whose base emotional state is being angry. I liked Mara much more when other writers wrote her, Zan always tried to made her much more than she should be. Ironically I think she was Luke´s best LI, and was angry in how they sent her off.
I did like Karrde.
About what I expect for EP 7? Disregard the EU, kill off the big 3 to make place for some new heroes, and new threat that´ll make Palpatine seem like a whelp. The best case scenario I can think of is a fast forward after the classic characters have died of old age and start from there.

Joking aside. If they went along the lines of the Thrawn Trilogy, sign me up. However, I'm not really sure how well it would engage the little kiddies who like SW because the depth of it all is pretty big for such minds to comprehend.
I'm just going to see how this goes before I pass judgment. I loved the Avengers and the Pirates of the Carribbean and if thats anything to pass judgment from, they could be in good hands.

Getting George Lucas, the worst dialogue writer of all time, out of the way can only be a good thing. [/quote]

I agree with this sentiment. I think the writing for the prequels turned out poorly because there was no one checking his creative decisions.

Don't know how to feel about this... I despise them for Disney laws and the Disneyfication of fairy tales and Lucas (and Marvel) being independent "felt better", but on the other hand the Disney Renaissance brought me many happy childhood memories and they've done good by Marvel and Pixar, so... yay?
Well, I suppose it can only mean good things for SW. Luke's fall to the dark side aside, the EU (and, well, SW in general) was always better the less Lucas got involved. He ruined many stories by sudden proclamations of thou shalt not do this. And maybe the original films on Blu-ray? (Or any medium, really.) It didn't seem possible mere hours ago, but now hope is sparked again in this gloomy heart of mine.
Anyway, they should do the Thrawn trilogy. (Just like the fourth Indy film should've been an adaptation of The Fate of Atlantis.) They secondary media have given them the rare gold, they should not screw it up by trying to come up with something better, which they'll likely fail at and just ****** off everyone anyway.

They may have licensed stuff or done minor work but now they're major players.

I am very much open to recasts in this case.
I'd rather they focused on the Old Republic timeline.

Who cares about the movies, how will this affect star wars 1313 and future sw titles? Disney has really bad habit of censoring violence. This can't be good at all.
Because Star Wars is known for its graphic violence?

As I understand it, Disney bought Lucasfilm not LucasArts.

Disney bought Lucasfilm Limited and everything that came under it including Lucasarts, Industrial Light and Magic, and Skywalker Sound.
