Is the party size of 4 optimal? Do you like it? Do you want More? or Maybe even less?

4 lets you have 1 of every class plus 1 extra. It gives you some freedom in your choice of who to bring with you and it worked fairly well in previous Bioware titles, but I am reminded of NWN2 (not a Bioware title I know) where after Act 2 you had a 5th slot open up!!!. In DA that would mean 1 of every class plus 2 extra! Adding even more variety. Whether or not this is a good idea is up for debate, so what do you think?

Would a larger party size be better?
Pros: More party banter! Now 4 Companions can interact with eachother!
More diverse party builds! Want THREE mages? You can have em and still have room for a warrior and a rogue.
More options for Companions to interact with NPCs during Convo's. Often I would bring specific companions in DAO to specific events so I could hear their additions to the dialogue.

Cons: Less replayability? If you can bring more companions out with you then you have less need to replay the game to see what happens with different party members.
More micromanaging? Let's face it, sometimes the Tactics interface isnt enough, sometimes you need to take control! With 5 characters on screen this can be a bit more daunting.

Your input?

I would be ok with just taking two squaddies with you like in ME, but three is fine. Any more than that and it's just a bloated mess.

Also (and this is on console), my squaddies like to stand right up next to me when I stand still, so when I am trying to activate something or open a chest, etc, sometimes I have to run away from the item to make my squaddies get away from it, so that I can run back and open it real quick before they get so close the only thing that shows I can 'activate' is their little name bubble.

Doesn't happen all the time, but it is as annoying as hell.

If everyone is going to wear size 4's then they will be awfully tiny, or have ridiculously narrow waists. If they're set on such a small size, then why not go elf? It's not implausible that most elven women, heck most adult elves, are size 4's.

And what's with this obsession over underwear? They're all going to be in granny panties, so why does the size matter?

Think the 3 plus the protaganist works well. Gives flexibility that's needed imo.
Can't think of a justification for increasing it and certainly wouldn't want it reduced.

I want five. Wasn't there some party banter with Seb, Bethany, Varric and Isabela that couldn't actually be heard in normal gameplay because there's too many of them? I want to hear Isabela say "He melted mine" hehe.

I don't have a problem with a party of four (I'd love a party of five or six, but that's not a hill I'm ready to die on) but what I'd really want is more sections like in the first assault on Denerim DA:O, where the entire group is fighting at once, even if they would be operating outside my control.

Sections like the Suicide Mission in ME2 would be great, as well. Times in the game where you can order certain party members to assume certain roles, which you lead a normal sized party in a coordinated effort/attack at the same time. This could expand the size of the 'party' to be all of your companions, while at the same time not overloading the console hard-limit of four playable characters on screen at once.

No, I'm fine with just 3 in DA3.

I did like how everyone pitched in at the end fight with Meredith though, also if you got in a fight at the Hanged Man and didn't have Varric or Isabela in your party, they would leap to your aid XD

I'd be down for an IE-style 6 man party, but Origins worked just fine with 4 and if it ain't broken, don't fix it.

Same! I really like the idea of having all your companions at your side during some big, important fight. It gives me good feels in my kokoro!

Size doesn't matter.

But I like it on the bigger side.

Bigger is better. I always thought it was weird that half my team was twiddling their thumbs while I was off slaughtering darkspawn.

If not 4, then I would like to see 6 like in Baldur's Gate and Pokemon.

3 suits Final Fantasy very well, but I think only on special occasions (i.e. quests), would 3 actually work for Dragon Age.

5 would be nice, since you would be more likely to get dialogue from companions. However, with more companions, there would have to be a deeper level of precendence for one companion over another, and some might have as equally good a reason to say something in response. So it'd be just that little bit more complicated.

I think that they should keep it the way it is now, or at most maybe one more. I don't want to have like a small army falling me around everywhere I go. That'd get very annoying very fast.

Loved having 6 in the old IE games but I felt like those large parties and the different skills were actually very helpful in those games to deal with some of the tougher battles. Probably would be overkill in the DA world though I do think it would be cool to have a few moments where your whole party fights alongside you - like when you're fighting your way to the gates in Denerim

I'm pretty sure you can still choose how many people are in your squad, so if you want less than 3 you can take less than 3 companions.

So adding a 4th companion wouldn't hurt much of anything cause you'd just need to select three companions and press start or X or A or whatever buttons are needed for exiting companion selection screen.

I want to be able to take everyone. That my party will be like a minicrusade. There rarely is an explenation in BW games why I leave most of my people behind in camp? If they were atleast doing something like crafting or doing laundry. "Oh right, I'm taking on the entire qunari army... Might aswell take only three guys. Don't want to make too easy...

I like the idea of having a larger party, but for those of us who play on console, it could get challenging when trying to manage everyone in combat. Unless the developers come up with a better way to do so. It might be worth it though, I'd have to try it out to see. There were many times in both DA:O and DA2 when I wished I could have at least one more party member.

Anything less than four is a disappointment as four allows rogue + mage + warrior + whatever.  That whatever slot is important to me for the feeling of freedom.  I wonder why they don't have five.  Is it too crowded at some angles?  Is it a memory limitation issue on consoles? Who knows.  Four is good.  Five might be better.

I agree with this.  I really liked controlling two parties at the Battle of Denerim.  In general, I want
to be able to imagine my party as doing something and not just sitting
around at camp waiting on me.  But I also like situations where I
control fewer people like the prison break in DAO.  Switching up the
amount of members I control and even controlling other characters than the PC is cool.

I'd like to be able to enter and exit small rooms without my companions clogging up the doorways behind me. I'M LOOKING AT YOU, SMALL DRAGON AGE 2 CAVE NOOK.

Spot on.
