Please forgive the off-topic question, but what is a Writer's Pit?  It sounds like something you place under a trap door.

It is! And that's where we keep all the writers.

I'm told it's to keep us from infecting the rest of the staff. Which is perfectly reasonable.

Have you considered Morgan Freeman to voice act? Lol. The man would be awesome. No series is ever truly complete without a little of this man. And Patrick Stewart, obviously. Hell, anybody from Star Trek. Props for Kate Mulgrew, but did Gargoyles teach you nothing?

Morgan Freeman would be a tad expensive. I think at any given time of the year, there's at least three Hollywood films or major commercials where Morgan Freeman is providing voice-over.

That has happened.

We even had an actor audition for a DA2 role who was in DAO... and they were great. Sadly, they had a voice that was really obviously that DAO role. For about two minutes we agonized over whether it would be OK regardless... but no. No, no. Sanity must rule the day (except on Friday, and even then only in the Writer's Pit).

Does a similar thing happen across BioWare franchises? I can't imagine you using Meer or Hale again for any BioWare game for a while since both their voices have become so well known as Shepard.

I believe both voice player characters in SWTOR.

Hale voiced Fem!Trooper, Meer didn't voice any player character as far as I remember, but I can't speak for NPCs. MaleTrooper was voiced by Varric's VA though, and FemImperial Agent is FemHawke.

We've never had Mr. Fillion act for us in DA. The choice of characters might be limited, unless he can do an accent (and, if he can, would he still sound like Nathan Fillion?). Even then, I'd more than happily have him voice someone. Hell, I'd even write a character just for him. That's how much I adore the man.

Thing is, he has that whole TV show thing. And a career. And such. He is a Man In Demand, and good on him. I don't imagine doing VO work on a video game is really his speed any longer. ;)

It took a second playthrough of DA2 to make me realize that Gamlen's voice actor was Teagan's. :)

Nope. Male Shep's VA is Mark Meer, The Glorious, while the male BH's VA is a guy I don't really know at all. I couldn't stand the FemSmuggler VA, to be perfectly honest, and male IA... well. He's a winner.

I don't think anybody from the DA team worked on TOR, aside from Hepler. She wrote Smuggler's Act 2 and 3 (you can notice that the humor I loved so dearly in Act 1 vanished, but the storyline became more tight, so to speak) and I believe she wrote Corso - not sure about the other companions.

She wrote the Corso Romance portion (I am unsure how much of the character she wrote, but she did say she did the romance--and talked about some of the difficulties incorporating the romance in a character who had already had most of his story arc written--in another thread). I loved that companion, very sweet, funny. Perfect lil bro for the smuggler who doesn't romance him, but a sweet romantic for the lady smuggler. I loved how he got all funny/jealous whenever my smuggler would flirt with someone else. My Tilloa was a shameless lil twilek, but she was so much fun!

If we can't get Tim Curry, can you guys compensate by getting Nathan Fillion to voice a companion? :D

You guys got people from Tricia Helfer to Adam Baldwin etc... surely you can get Nathan Fillion.. :P

My Male Smuggler spent most of his time trying to get Corso out of his armor - though there was a bit in Alderaan where a male Smuggler can tell Skavak that no, Corso has nothing to compensate for. Buut we're getting off-topic.

Whatever the OP said, I probably agree!

Wait, it is?

It took goddamn IMDB for me to find out that Sebastian is also Seneschal Bran. Or that Steven Blum was both Oghren (obvious) and the First Enchanter (less than obvious). Or that the guy did Zaeed did Mayor Murdock and Lord Harrowmont. I was floored when I read that.

It's actually amazing how you can get sucked into the story and not notice these things. Some of which you can't help but think you'd notice if you just listened for it.

Make him a charming rogue city elf! Or a charming rogue casteless/surfacer dwarf. Varric could totally have another brother he doesn't know about or something. Or, or, or, you could say he's from the Anderfels and everyone in the Anderfels sounds Canadian (Anders doesn't count because he grew up in Ferelden, right? So we technically haven't met anyone from the Anderfels?) Just include the Fillion. PLEASE. FILLION ME.

Varric is obviously Leske, but I guess that's acceptable because Brian Bloom is one of the better voice actors in Dragon Age and many people don't even know who Leske is.

Very odd that Gaider said that now, considering the people who are saying "that character was THAT guy/girl?!" when the voices are later kinda obvious.

At least I recognized Boulton instantly. To me, he will always be a sadistic, rapey noble (sorry Boulton! I'm sure you're a nice person IRL!)

But it is really funny how you don't really notice initially. I just found out via IMDB, for example, that Greg Ellis did Awakening Anders and Cullen.....which is insanely old news. Make sense that they'd do multiple people for multiple things though, VOs are pricey (especially anyone with name recognition).

Captain Hammer for companion and LI. While we're at that, make all his companion quests a mix of musical numbers and interpretive dances.

Bam said the lady (me), instant success.

IIRC Mark Meer is listed in the additional voice cast in the credits of both Dragon Age games and I think he did the voice of Tug in Leliana's Song DLC and Kimberly Brooks who did the voice of Ash in Mass Effect triology did the voice of Lanya (Zatheran's First in the Dalish Camp quest) in DA:O.

He's the VA for Gao the Lessor, in Jade Empire so he's already been a BioWare game.

Seriouslyy get Peter Cullen should be the VA for the male lead in Dragon Age III just imagine the male character "Inquistors lets roll out!" Image IPBImage IPB At least that way I would be more inclinced to play a male character.

Forget a villain. If we have to have a voiced PC, I'd like Tim Curry to voice it. Tim Curry is the perfect voice for my typical male PC (which is why I'm usually so disappointed in the voice provided - I'd have liked Mass Effect a lot more if Shepard were Tim Curry rather than Mark Meer).

Same. 'Tis my Halloween movie. That and Little Shop Of Horrors and Sweeny Todd. But Rocky Horror's the best. Image IPB

And Tim Curry is one of the best things ever. Love his voice so much, especially in the Cravendale adverts. I hate having to kill him in DAO, even if he was the third most villainous villain in the series so far.
