They... er... feel Shepard in Synthesis? And... Control Holoshep contacts them?

That't it! It's either we are 1 within the "Collective",  or it's "Big Brother" communicating with us.  Either way, everybody knows.

:D

They added you to the memorial wall well still on the planet after crashing, before that they really had no way of knowing what actually occurred on the Citadel so why do they just assume you died?

Because they never loved you.

You can't argue physics in a universe like ME. You won't get anywhere.

Watch it - someone might slap you with a singularity for talk like that. :D

The superweapon that nobody knows anything about just went off with Shepard standing right below it. They at least knew that Shepard was on the citadel, and when they saw a giant destructive wave of energy chasing them through FTL that originated at said station, they probably put 2+2 together and figured Shepard died.

First off no one knew where Shepard was regards to the explosion, amd well it is a definite possibility I HIGHLY doubt the crucible was built with the assumption that the "triggerman" would be killed by using it. Lets take the control ending for example: Blue energy shoots out leaving the Citadel pretty much entirely intact, Normandy runs off and everyone immediately assumes Shepard died.

I wouldnt call that putting 2 and 2 together, I would call that jumping to conclusions.

They knew Shepard was on the Citadel, well Hackett did at least, so he's basically right under the device.  Also, they flee while it's activating, they don't actually see the citadel being destroyed/notdestroyed.  What they do see is a giant energy blast chasing them at FTL speeds.  Nobody knows what will happen, but if a blast so powerful that it can chase you at FTL is present, that wouldn't seem to bode well for anyone directly beneath it.  It may not be as simple as putting 2 and  2 together, but it's probably a reasonable assumption.

I agree, its a definite possibility. But it would still make sense to confirm it before making any assumptions. Keep in mind that blast hit earth as well and no one is actually harmed by the energy released so that on its own you can safely assume Shepard could have survived.

They had radio contact, and Hackett was able to tell when Shep/Anderson made it to the beam, so they might have vital signs or some kind of tracker.

That sounds like a bit of a stretch, but I admit I have no way of disproving it.

I am more curious as to why they have a plaque maker on the Normandy. And how awkward that scene must have been in Destroy ending.

LI: Yeah...guys. I don't think he's dead. I feel it.
Crewman: WHAT. Why didn't you say that before I made the damn plaque?!

Unless Shepard had them made ahead of time, with explicit instructions to have an Irish funeral immediately after. Just in case.

What I want to know is how anyone knew Shepard was on the citadel in the first place. Last anyone knew, everyone rushing the beam died.

they found out because Bioware wanted Shepard to die. They were simply projecting Bioware's wishes.

Well. We're on a space station.

The space station explodes.

I guess they connected the dots.

Funny thing is that Bioware itself declared that the citadel DID NOT EXPLODED..

I think the point of this thread is that in the end, they should've just had a funeral scene. It would've been an emotional moment for the player and all the characters. It'd bring opportunites for variation such as who gives a memorial speech, which characters are present, etc.

But there's one giant problem. This kinda thing would require....

effort.

That and I noticed a few posts from people on here before EC saying they wanted the crew to place Shepards name on the memorial wall.

They were just glad that Shepard was finally dead and wanted to get things over with as soon as possible. I'd bet Joker even started the plaque maker on Normandy long before Shepard entered the Citadel.
I'm pretty sure you LI even got a beating from the rest of the crew for hesitating to put up the plaque.

At least go back and look for Shepard before declaring him/her dead? What a waste of time!
The Reapers are dead/enslaved/best buddies. It's time to celebrate!
Lets not let pointless bickering about whether or not Shepard is alive or dead get in the way of the celebrations (and calibrations)

I think it had something to do with getting fatally struck by the main gun of a dreadnought. It wasn't a direct hit per se but the radiant energy from relativistic fired molten metal should have Shepard covered in third degree burns. With no imminent treatment to be covered in third degree burns, it is pretty safe to assume Shepard is dead regardless of the state of the Citadel.

look s/he is half dead (edit) wont assept image for some reason search mass effect 3 shepard on citadel damaged on google

Probably because Shepard disappears off the face of the earth and you never hear from them again. At least in control and synthesis.

They are stranded on some world in the back of beyond. They are just holding a memorial service to give people a chance to express their feelings. They are assuming Shep died as they hadn't heard from him/her. In High EMS destroy apparently they miracously feel it is inappropriate to put his/her name on the wall.
