Congrats on picking your ending.

As to your question here, I can see a pure paragon being in conflict, but if he sees it is the only way to stop the reapers and allow the galaxy to develop on its own terms...he would take the risk.

Yeah, people are giving me a hard time about that. I've really tried to figure out a way to prevent Shepard from getting involved in galactic affairs.

Control is not a popular ending (often comes last on pools, though honestly I think most people are indifferent).  As I've mentioned, it's power comes from its interpretation.  It can be viewed as paragon or renegade, and the potential results can be incredibly varied (I think I posted an example in your other thread).  Enjoy what you picked, it's up to you to decide what becomes of your Shepard as well as the Shepalyst.

I was hoping that I would finally feel relieved. I don't.

You have picked a minority posiiton. As is common in society, the majority will now attempt to make you conform.

Destroy would be the easiest choice. The synthetic extinction still sucks, but it's definitely the "safest" option.

Because the stupid Extended Cut declares that Shepard will act as a guardian. Therefore, he is guaranteed to interfere with galactic events. It turns him into a dictator. And no matter what I try to headcanon, people will always remember how the EC depicts Control.

Am I the only one who thinks this is the best epilogue theme song?

Ugh, that song is so ominous. It's practically screaming, "YOU CHOSE THE EVIL ENDING!":devil:

Well that to be fair that line is pretty ambiguous. It doesn't necessarily have to be interpreted as guardian = government/politics. Politics requires communication and according to the Catalyst, Shepard's connection to organic life is lost the moment he chooses Control.

At the same time though, the epilogue does make it seem like the Reapers will be a big part of the galactic community. So it's harder to headcanon them leaving or flying into the sun. The way I see it, the Reapers will play the same role as the Keepers do but on a larger scale. They're tools and only just tools.

I think the Control ending is the most interesting one, actually---though the reasons why I find it interesting fit into the reasons why I wouldn't choose it.

I see everyone is using their headcannon to say why your headcannon is wrong, right on schedule to.

This is a destroy forum filled with people who headcannon all the endings so that destroy is the only choice and all others can go die in a tire fire. It's just the way it is. Personally, I think you'll be better off just making a single post and leaving this thread to it's natural degeneration into a mudslinging spectacle, but I don't have much faith in rational discussions on the internet.

Also, control ending fist bump brother.

Well, I've pretty much rejected Synthesis at this point. Unless new information comes out that makes it more appealing, my conscience won't let me choose it.

Destroy is still a possibility, but it would suck. What a loathsome act. I don't want to obliterate all synthetics, and I don't want to deny the Reapers a chance at redemption.

I just picked all four and used comic book parallel universe cannon logic, that way I can pick and choose from each what happens, like having my cake and eating it too. XD

Yes, for those of you who have been following my threads, I've finally chosen my canon ending. I choose Control.

Synthesis is simply too much. I love the concept, but I can't force it on every being in the galaxy. Who am I to make such a literally life-changing choice? It is not my place to alter the fundamental nature of life.

So why did I not choose Destroy? I don't believe in the concept of "forbidden knowledge", and I don't want to invalidate synthetic life. Synthetics have the right to self-determination, and I will not betray them out of a fear of the Reapers.

As the new Catalyst, created from the mind of an organic, I will use the Reapers for good. I will help rebuild the galactic infrastructure, and then retreat into the dark corners of the galaxy for a while. I will remain in relative obscurity, quietly observing the galaxy's progress. I will not involve myself in politics or conflicts unless I determine that something truly horrible is about to happen.

As more time passes and the galaxy gradually becomes comfortable with the concept of "peaceful Reapers", I will begin to offer the knowledge contained within them. The knowledge of the Reapers will be revealed at a gradual pace. I don't want to overwhelm the galaxy or make it progress too quickly.

My long term goals, which may take millennia to fulfill, will be the following:

- Ensure that all species have the right to self-determination, within reasonable limits (I will stay out of most conflicts).
- Disseminate the knowledge of the Reapers throughout the galaxy.
- Restore the species contained within the Reapers and reintegrate them into galactic society.

Through Control, I validate the existence of all forms of life, and I offer the galaxy the power and knowledge of lost civilizations. We will not fear the unknown. We will embrace it.

Good on you. Nice to see another cat-Shep on board.

I've heard there was a secret chord that David played and it pleased the Lord, but you don't really care for music, do ya?

OP, your basing your decision on the outcomes of your choice, not the choice itself.

i never made my decision at the end of ME3 based on twitter canon.

ill always choose destroy, and tell people i pick refuse and turn the game off at "SO B...."

Well, before making a choice, I know that Destroy will target synthetics.

Whatever feelings you have towards Control, it's strength as a candidate for canon is the fact that it leaves the Mass Effect universe fundamentally unchanged. Refuse is out for obvious reasons, Destroy is out because we loose two whole alien races plus one major NPC and god knows what else, and Synthesis is out because it changes everything too drastically.

Wheras in Control you have living geth, living EDI, and organics are still organic. The only anomaly are the Reapers under Shepard's control, but they don't really need to be involved in the plot, especially since Bioware have said they're moving away from the military side of things for upcoming games.

You're part of a minority now. Your skin will thicken and with time you'll become jaded and conniving.

One of us, one of us!

But seriously now, it seems a lot of peoples sole purpose on this forum is to make other people feel bad for not picking their choice.

Stop thinking of the Shepalyst and the Reapers as dictators. That is only the case in Renegade control. The reapers become a force, they do not impose laws upon people and make them suffer injustices. They are now simply a force that preserves peace and prevents galatic disaster and extinction. They, like the original Reapers, will never integrate into society.

Perhaps once they are done rebuilding they could return to Darkspace and enter hibernation until they are needed. Say another Rachni uprising occurs and life in the galaxy is threatened, the Reapers awaken and stop the problem.

I never understood why people got a dictator sort of feel from paragon control, Shepard becomes king of the Reapers, not king of the Galaxy. I'd almost say it's now above the Reaper AI to interfere in petty squabbles among lesser races. The reapers have better things to do than impose taxes and mug old ladies.
