nice work man, looks good. I thought about trying to make N7 armor this year for halloween but the funds just weren't there

Thanks! Yeah, you wouldn't figure how expensive it'd be, but especially with all the tools the cost really does add up.
Right now, a better weapon's being built- converting an old M93R into an M3 Predator.

It does look good. I like that it looks more rustic vs. metallic.

(Also, you're pretty darn cute lol.)

Haha, thanks- the Kaidan fangirls there seemed pretty glad for that, I was dragged around a little while.
Sadly, the rustic look was unintentional- I couldn't find a sealing agent in time and didn't have time to do the glue method, so the foam is painted alone. I'm buying polyurethane resin to seal it right now, the entire thing is being overhauled.

Very nice work, love the weathering you've made. Conveniently, you got looks for Kaidan too!, heheh!

Cheers all!
So, next step was plastic coating it. Tried to get my hands on some Smooth-Cast 65D but it's pretty hard to get and honestly I couldn't be arsed.
There were a few other Mass Effect cosplayers at the Christmas parade (our local nerd convention always does a float), so we formed our own little group. Haven't found any pictures yet, though.
Here's a nice one of the latest updates.

heh you look a bit like General Ming from The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor :)

when I saw the back, I thought it was the ME1 armor style and I thought it looked almost identical.

Do I? That is rather depressing

Thanks though, my build was sort of an amalgamation of what I thought looked cool from all of his different sets across the games. Hated his one-piece shoulder protectors, so I split them for added mobility. Guess I'm not a purist.

Anyways, started on his undergear.

That's really good! The paint is amazing. Some people are so fantastic with cosplay, I could honestly only ever dream to cosplay - I don't have the talent or patience to do it

Thanks!
Trust me, it's not too hard to get into it- it started as a timefiller when I had a week off of work to recover from a surgery. I'm not a particularly patient individual either, but there's no feeling quite like having a build materialize in front of you.
If you ever get into it, the trick to painting foam well is sealing it right! I cheaped out on this build and used PVA (just white glue in a thin coat), it gives it a good layer that takes paint really well. Drybrushing details added that extra dimension.

How did you make the black layering under the foam if I may ask? did you make it from scratch or buy it?

Under which foam- the armour itself? That's just a black thermal jacket that I had kicking about, it was 0 degrees when I took those photos. I generally wear underarmour, but I find that's not high-tech looking enough hence the undersuit build I started above.

Though, reading your question again, I'm pretty sure I misunderstood it..

No worries! I'm redoing the undersuit entirely to be much tighter and awesome, I'll put pictures when it's done.
Also, random side prop note- Solid Eye!

Will you be contributing to the cosplay event involving Raphael Sbarge and Luciano Costa?

(What I'd give to tailor for Luciano....)

Ah! Heard about this.
Nah, I don't really have anything I'd see fit to put on the actual faces from Mass Effect (I take artistic liberties a lot, like adding MOLLE webbing on some of the pieces and whatnot simply because I can). Sticking to guidelines is something they'd probably want and something I can't do- especially between making my personal set look better, and working on several commissions.

So it's been a little while, but my armor group is doing some events so I decided to upgrade the armour a bunch. It's not as nice as it could be yet- the priority is filling in the gaps in the armour with a nice tight fitting undersuit with actual texture to give it an actual futuristic look- but a friend and I threw together a pistol. He made a foam base, which I used plastic panels to build over to create details- I drilled holes in the side and wired some LEDs (the trigger guard hides wires that connect to a battery case at the bottom of the grip).
It needs to be painted and smoothed a bit, but here it is right now. The trigger works, I used the hammer mechanism from a cap gun and put it in.

So months later, it's finally almost done.

Did some charity stuff as part of a local armored costuming group for prostate cancer- no good pictures came of the updates from it, but a lot of nonsense did.

The armour did not survive fifty pushups, the shoulders broke shortly after. They were coated with a solid plastic thermoformed sheet later that night, as all of the armour pieces slowly are.

We are adults. Total adults.

Sadly this is the only good picture I could get of the pressure suit, put together to fill the gaps in the armor with something better than just spandex. It is sewn poly dacron pads with a fabric overlayer, cut into sci-fi musculature and attached to a thermal layer.

The face is because two people are eating candy attached to my shoulder. We had been drinking. Welcome to Nova Scotia.

Half finished picture-

Really helps give that 'not some dude wearing spandex and foam' look.

I would love to get into armor building but I would HAVE to do it with someone, learning it on my own would be insanely hard! I really love your Kaidan build man so sick, so sick! You have put in ALOT of work into it.
