So, the wonderful guys at Quantum Entanglement are sending me a Viper to do a photoshoot with! Give 'em a like at https://www.facebook.com/QEProps , Zach makes wonderful Mass Effect props.

Anyways, in the meantime before my Femshep and I take photos, I've started painting toy guns and whatnot in anticipation, just to see how they'd turn out Mass Effected.

Here's a day worth of results.

No replies but a hell of a lot of viewers, so I'm just gonna continue here.

Image IPB

I made a gun that's canon and ISN'T made of foam! I'll throw together a rifle, probably a Mattock (yes, the irony of Kaidan using two Cerberus guns isn't lost on me).

Talon took me about two days, it's made of wood.

build process-

Image IPB

Cut out base (size comparison to a WIP Predator)

Image IPB

Cut out panels

Image IPB

Wood filler, sand, detail, then seal for paint+primer

And paint gets you what you have above

Just because I'm not done. I'm NEVER DONE.

N7 Hurricane build so far. Figured Kaidan needed a primary.

Here's some Work in Progress shots to give an idea of the method

Next up, trying to nail his damn hairstyle, which is weirdly hard. Perhaps I should get a haircut- it's short notice as my shoot is ****ing Tuesday, but what can you do.

My last attempt looks greaser as hell

Love the pics!
Those guns look awesome :) How long does it take you to make one?

Thanks! Uh, I'm on day 4 of the Hurricane, but I think it'll only take one more. I work about 4 hours a day on them, and I've had help from a friend or two in some of the grunt work such as cutting out pieces. I make props at the side as a job, so I'm constantly hopping back and forth between paid commissions and things for myself.

The Talon took me two and a half days, but one of those days I worked from noon until midnight because of a deadline. I don't know if it counts either, I stripped the paint off it because I'm still unsatisfied with the finish yesterday.

Here's today's update, actually. :)

A bit of detailing around the front, the barrel assemblies, and some smoothing out on the bottom is left. Then, a paint job.

Question though, should I paint the stripe and highlights red to match the N7 colour scheme, or blue to match Kaidan?

One more day 'til shooting, and I still need to paint it and repaint the Talon. Time is getting really tight.

Update! Shoot totally happened and it was awesome. More studio time soon.
Photos courtesy of Nick Dollimount Photography, the Viper was on loan from Quantum Entanglement Props. My good friend Lexi modelled Femshep.

Unsatisfied with how the armor looked- it's way too bulky and doesn't fit the character- I have slimmed down EVERYTHING, made the spine curve to mine, sealed up and tightened the bracers, replaced the undersuit (made by my fantastic coworker Danielle at Obsidian Propworks), and made everything fit far better.

The waist fits far tighter, same with the shins which are now sealed clamshell design as opposed to being not. Panels were removed from spine that gave it unecessary bulk, as well as the waist pads that made me look, well, fat. Stripes and colors were moved around, as well as creative cutting to make the suit appear far more canon.
Casual Kaidan suit coming!

Only question- should I throw the yellow Alliance markings on the chest and shoulder on, or not?

I hated it. I hated how it looked. The legs were chunky and the chest plate was wrong and EVERYTHING pissed me off.

So, it was redone for FanExpo.

So I hated it. Those pictures were well done but the armor looks like crap. I scrapped the whole thing and rebuilt everything that could be done to make it look less like a bulky piece of **** and more like what it looks in game.

Pouch is noncanonical but that's so it could carry my wallet around the 'con

Most important things scrapped were the entire legs

Image IPB

The legs actually look friggin' canon now, they were completely rebuilt with styrene plating and 1/4in foam. No more ugly base.

Made a top ten list somehow!

I finally don't hate this build anymore.

Superb work. Especially after rebuilt. The torso shape is great now, it wasn't bad before, just not enough of a "V" shape, which I imagine is a no problem to draw/model in 3d but very hard to build construction for costume so it actually hangs on the body correctly.

Great work!

I'll order 2 sets. Do you come included in the package?;)
