With a solo platinum, most have used the map glitches on hydra and dagger. That right there taints the banner more than kroguarg vs geth.

True Mass Effect aficionado will never use glitches.

You show me one honest player and I'll show 3 missile glitchers. It's alot of the current nature of the game. There are alot of player out there that don't earn thier banners or gear. Those that do know they did it threw grinding and some skill.

The faction banners can be hell, especially cerberus. You have to grind silver for along time to get those guardians since on gold they almost don't exist. The rest of the challenge is easy to do on gold and plat since the other units are there enough.

I worked at getting skill to be a good player. I played the game and went threw the s***, same everyone else who has any skill with this game. A sizeable portion of ex-farmers I can't say that about. I never found it fun to sit in desk for 20-30 minutes and even then some people couldn't get it right.

Of course in a random pug pride and skill mean jack s*** when 3 glitchers look at you carring a wraith x with a valkyre and you see 3 strikers and various charge weapon and dreaded 3 x's pop up.

I call BS. Kroguarding vs Geth... takes little to no skill. That's how most people got it... so the banner will forever be tainted in that regard.

It still takes skill and some high level equipment, I know, I done it.

I know decent/average gold players who can't get it with Krog/Reeg.

I've seen them carry waves here and there on gold but, they still don't have LW.

And not for lack of trying.

Well, for me it is mainly due to a lack of trying. I don't have lone wolf, and I don't care to get it. I have nothing against others doing it, but for me the main draw of ME3 mp is that it's cooperative. I started out on the Atari 2600 (the original model with the faux wood paneling on the top that reminded me of an old station wagon), moved on to the NES, Super NES, Playstation, PS2, XBOX, and currently the XBOX 360. I point this out simply to demonstrate that, for me, gaming began (and is still most fun) with getting together with friends. We'd pop in a game and each grab a controller (or rotate who had the controllers if there were enough of us). I still do that with my best friend when I get the opportunity. When I can't, I now have the option of meeting up with other friends online and sharing a similar experience. So, if I'm playing with friends and they go down and I have to solo part of a gold wave, that's fine. It's just that, for me, playing solo games completely defeats the purpose of playing ME3 mp.

I also started out with the original Atari, as well as Space Invaders and Missile Command in a local carry-out.

I'm not sure what your point is with this post.

His point is that he enjoys gaming with other people and doesn't care about solo'ing.

I guess I just didn't see how his gaming history had anything to do with player skill.

I got the banner on gold vs. reapers with the Asari Justicar. Given that it was the only one that made me pump some adrenalin into the system, I'd agree that it's the one that requires you to know what you're doing. Because there is noone there who can pick you up when you fall. Just you, a horde of things that want to kill you and some guy on the radio who keeps calling you "team" ;-)

You need to be able to kill and evade enemies quickly (moreso than when there's 3 other guys helping you kill them), what to do when that 1234 objective appeared right inside a spawn point and most importantly to know the difference between a situation that requires you to fight and one that requires you to run. Knowing that is the difference between life or death.

Those are skills. Lets look at the rest of the challenges. Complete 200 waves here, get extracted 10 times therem kill x amount of this and that enemy, those are the bulk of it, can be done on bronze with 4 people only one of which has to know what he/she is doing. Just a matter of time.

The weapons challenges can be done on bronze as well but if you can hit a target that's beneficial. So some skill here as well. The interesting thing here is that after you got that banner you have _aquired_ skill by learning how to use all those guns you never did or wanted to.

tl/dr:

yup.

I come from the same background as that guy (Old Atari, NES, PC, etc.) and I totally get where he's coming from. The real lure for this game IMO is the people... if I didn't have friends to play with, I wouldn't play it. PUG exclusively!? No thanks... I'd rather go mow the lawn. Anyway... take the people out of ME3 and the fun leaves for alot of us. This is why many don't like soloing... we are social creatures.

I also enjoy playing with my friends. Many of them post in this forum.

However, they weren't with me when I played the SP in all 3 ME games. I mean, we are talking about a MP that is an offshoot of an RPG. Soloing shouldn't seem like a foreign concept around here.

Anything without charge or cloak is an impressive solo imo.
Grats on playing the class you prefered over the ones that would of made it easier.

That's very true. However... the ME games play more to me like an interactive story with cakewalk combat thrown in. It's like on of those old 'Choose your own Adventure" books, more than an RPG. Seriously... Cerberus troopers everywhere, LOL.

Also.. is it really soloing with Liara and Garrus there?

Nomad means you have to play the game on gold on every map, or platinum on a few less maps, for 100 waves. Soloing only really needs one setup. Nomad might be one that requires a lot of grinding for time, sure, but I think it requires more skill than Lone Wolf, just because having a specific plan for each map is kinda tough. You need some versatility.

I read those books when I was a kid. They are in a box in a nearby closet.

Anyways, soloing for me is like playing  a Legendary level on Halo or other games of that kind.

It is 20-30mins of shooting fun that I enjoy.

I'm guessing it's another LW thread with the usual sorts of comments that facilitate epeen wagging:
- Doesn't require skill, anyone can do it using Kroguard vs. Geth
- Anyone can run around a map and eventually get it
- Would only be meaningful if you had to solo Platinum
- LWs are selfish players
- If I see a LW in a lobby then I run
- The reason I don't have one is cos it's too boring to solo (lolz)

Anyway if it's easy then get it. "Too boring" is not an excuse, I found it boring too but it forced me to understand the mechanics of the game better. And because of that, 90% of the time I can carry a Gold wave if everybody dies, regardless of character build or loadout.

I soloed with Liara and Garrus sometime back. Liara likes to float around and shoot rockets though a lot of stuff ignores her now while Garrus stays with me all the time going pew pew pew. Unfortunately Garrus runs out of ammo easily... Posted Image

I don't agree.

There are some kits that can handle any map.

By the way, I hope we get a chance to play together again.

Compared to all the others it is the only Banner that can't be achieved by simple grinding.

Map Mastery shows you are proficient on many levels in the game on Gold... or that you got carried through a ton of Gold games, which is less likely.

Given enough time it shows only that you have you can get that too by being carried.

Carried or not, if you are not a good player after having played over 1000 gold waves then you are a retard.

It would be nice if Bioware came out with a new banner that wasn't needed for the mass effect challenge with an insane challenge like solo platinum multiple times with multiple classes.

That would truely be a banner of triumph.
Preferablly with fem shep on the picture being a badass.

Agreed, that would be pretty epic. Or even solo Platinum once on each map.

Couldn't agree more beast.

@Big Jack Shephard
My gaming history doesn't necessarily say anything about my skill level when it comes to ME3 mp. I brought it up to point out that, for me, gaming is more enjoyable when doing so with other people. It was the built in ability to play cooperatively with other players that led me to spend so much time playing this mp, and soloing, for me, defeats my main purpose for being here. In other words, my gaming history was meant simply to explain why I don't care for soloing and why I have no interest in the lone wolf banner. As for my skill level, I personally have no doubt that I could solo. I have enough experience with the game, and I'm not exactly new to gaming for extended periods of  time. So, if I wanted to grind out a gold or platinum solo, I have no doubt that I could do so with some practice. I'd simply much rather play with other people. Since this is something I do for fun, I tend to stick with things I prefer to do.

Now, back to the original debate. Let me try to help us find a compromise. I believe that soloing does require some skill and experience. The mistake many people seem to make, however, is that they don't recognize that the skills  required to solo a gold match aren't exactly the same set of skills required to play as part of a team in a gold match. So, when someone with a lone wolf banner enters a PUG lobby, while you know they have some skills, you really don't know until the match is underway whether or not those skills will be of tremendous value to the team.

Truer word were never spoken. I've achieved my lone wolf on gold using my two favourite characters: the Slayer and the allmighty Kroguard. And yeah, let's be honest, soloing with a vanguard (specially with the Krogan) is easier. But, as LtAdams said, there are some skill needed for this feat, and we are talking about skill that are the basis of a good team player too. I can't recall how many PUG's I've been obliterated because of people who didn't know to pick their battles.

I have yet to see a bad player wearing the Lone Wolf banner. Just saying.

I recommend everyone get a Solo mastery

it helps teach you how controlling spawn points work

it prepares you to carry a wave alone should the need arise. And the need will probably will arise sooner or later.

It teaches you how to deal with bosses correctly. A lot of PUGs I play with seem to panic and focus fire a Banshee when they see one. This is usually not the right action. You should first deal with the 3 marauders suppressing you.

And most importantly, it teaches you to know when to run

Platinum solo on each map.. Now that would be an epic earn.
Might make a petition for that, I bet only a handful of people would even bother with it though.
