Most tend to go Curselifting, since it's the natural progression of the dialogues, unless You HAVE to be evil or rash...

I think I choose that one because it's almost the only quest in the whole game where you get to make a not this or that choice. Bhelen or Harrowmont? Anora or Alistair? And so on and so forth ad infinitum. Very few games, this one included, truly let you play 'neutral', and fewer let you play 'chaotic good' even if they say they do. Good choices are almost invariably lawful, unlawful ones are evil.
We get to make a lot of choices in this game, don't get me wrong, and they do change how things work out, but they almost all follow the formula - do THIS or do THAT. Now, I know and understand why this is so, but I do like to make use of any opportunity that is not A or B, Y or Z.
Edit: I really, really, really, wish I had an alternative to Bhelen or Harrowmont.

Huh, I've gotten there 3 times so far. Each time, I've broken the curse. It kinda bugs me that I got the achievement for 'siding with the elves' when I emphatically did not. I didn't kill witherfang or side with zathrian, but that's what I get, sheesh.
Exact same situation here, all my 3 times I had zathrian sacrifice himself to lift the curse, next time I am going for the "evil" route for sure, siding with the templars, werewolves and branka.

The problem I had with siding with the werewolves is that it condemns them to always be werewolves. Also why do I have to wipe out a whole clan of elves because of their leader? Nor do I see the purpose in killing off all the werewolves for no reason. I take the curselifting option which is the best of the outcomes. But it depends on the PC you are rping.
Exactly.
But in my current run thru, I will kill the elves all the same

I hate Elves
I hate Zathrian
I hate the Dalish for being so damn suspicious
Did I mention I hate elves?
I really don't need an army of 50 archers
Yup, werewolves.

Thedas for the moment lacks a bestial race, the werewolves would've fit the bill perfectly.

And here I thought after all this time that " Ferelden humans" were that impulse driven, smelly feral race!

*spoiler alert*
I'm pretty sure he even shows up at your funeral during the ultimate sacrifice ending if you side with him.
