I think DA3 will be released on the current gen of console. Some rumours for the 720 stated that the new console will be released in fall-winter 2013, but there are a lot of rumours for a 2014 release too (and I doubt that MS will release the new console without the Halo 5, so I think a 2014 release is more reasonable). DA3's rumours stated that the game will be released on Fall 2013 (I read a tweet two weeks ago, when we got news about human-only protagonist, that the game will be released on Fall 2013, but I don't know if it's true or not). Even if 720 and DA3 will be released on the same period (Fall-Wintwr 2013), or 2014 if DA3 will get delayed, I think it's a huge risk to release the game at the same time of the new console. Not only because there'll be a smaller base of console installed, but because the people who will buy the new console will probably buy the exclusive games of the console or some huge announced platform games. I think that DA3 might be overshadowed by other games if released at the same time of the 720.

We've received next to no information about next-gen consoles, with the exception of the WiiU. I suspect very strongly that DA3 will be on the current generation of consoles.

Not to mention that the import data you may or may not have will be on your current-generation console. Also, let us not forget that the install base for current-generation consoles is quite high. Certainly higher than the next-generation console install base, which is infact, zero. Posted Image

A) They already said there might not even be importing due to the engine swap alone.  And you know its going to happen sooner or later, Dragon Age isn't going to end with this generation.

B)  It would likely be across both generations at first rather then purely next gen anyways.

Next Gen Xbox is rumoured for 2014, Next Gen PS3 is not until 2016 at the earliest.

DA3 is out at the earliest by the end of 2013. So this gen.

The magician wants his hat you pulled those dates out of back.  (Thats a nicer way of saying you pulled them from your fudge factory)

We don't know when they are coming, but the current rate of development on both the software and hardware ends says its sooner then later.

I don't really understand why people expect every console will have this large gap from announcement to release like Wii U is getting.  That isn't really the industry standard for hardware.

Rumors and speculation aside, I would have no desire for the next DA game to be released on a next gen console.

My reason why is simply that all of the previous and current development is planne with current gen specs in mind. Sure, EA is stating they have next gen developer kits for the 720, but I doubt they are completely mobilizing their work force to integrate these design changes across the board.

Which means that the majority of development for DA3 will be done with current gen in mind, making a release for next gen more likely to be a simple port to the newer system, rather than a title that really capitalizes on the on the underlying technology available. I'd rather have DA3 be current gen and then DA4 be developed with next gen specs completely in mind a year or so after the new consoles release.

The team finished most of the DA2 DLC by around April 2012, no?

Who knows how it will turn out, but according to CEO John Riccitiello, EA began spending $80 million on production of next gen titles right around this time.

The last DA2 DLC was released November 2011, I believe. From what I understand, most of the work and content devoted to the Expansion Pack: Exalted March is now being re-directed into DA3. And the Frostbite Engine has had no games developed for the next gen consoles that have been announced.

So I'm not seeing the correlation.

As a PC gamer, I pray to whatever Gods there may be, that it is designed for next gen.  That's assuming there is even a port to the PC this time around though.

Its definitely going to be on next gen systems, assuming they're coming out late 2013. Since its Frostbite based it'll probably be on the current gen consoles albeit gimped in some way. EA has said time and again that they consider Frostbite a nextgen engine.

I think that's a safe assumption. Also, "port" implies it was developed for one platform, and then a version was made for the other in question. The DA games have been simultaneously developed for console and PC, so it's not actually a "port".

Bioware could make more money if they release it on this gen - it would sell now and then they could re-release a tweaked trilogy package for the next gen consoles with a few upgraded graphics etc.

If they release this on the next gen they'd have to wait for the next gen after that to do the same. I doubt DA:O would be new enough, or DA:2 good enough to warrent a full priced release themselves or even as a double-pack. A DA Trilogy tweaked re-release for the next gen consoles would sell like hotcakes at full price IMO (if DA:3 is any good and DA:2 tweaked obviously).

It has to be made with the other versions in mind though, with their inherent limitations. And DAO was a port to consoles.

Which sources? Any links?

Find it hard to believe that this would be the case.

Even though they [Bioware] haven't announced the platforms, I would think it would be out on the PS3/360 because of the save-import feature.

Also, IIRC, there was an anonymous survey among game studios a few months ago. 60% said they won't be developing a game for this generation in after 2013. So it's safe to assume that the likelihood of it releasing on these consoles is still a strong possibility.

What are your thoughts?

I'm pretty sure it'll be coming out for this generation, otherwise the save file transfer would likely be useless for console gamers unless BioWare were planning on finding a way to transfer the data between the old and new consoles.

We might see versions released for upcoming gen, but I'm not entirely sure anything other than the WiiU will be out by the time DA III is released? Does anyone have any solid info on the PS4 or XBox 720 (Durango or whatever they're planning to call it) release dates?

Hopefully it's next-gen.  You can see how big of a problem memory limitations on consoles are in Bethesda's inability to get DLC working for PS3 Skyrim.

A valid point. I stand corrected.

DA:O was made for PC, and ported to consoles.
DA2 was made for both.

This would be solved if they allowed your saved games (or at least an export of your saved games) to be saved to the "cloud", in your BSN profile. Then you could just import from your account, and it would work cross-platform.

I call the hat E3.

It was stated that the next Gen Xbox will be as early as 2014.

Sony has also stated that they would not bring out a next Gen PS untill the PS3s shelve life was at an end, which they reminded people was 10 years. PS3 was released in 2006. Simple maths.

It is so up in the air right now as to what console it will be and that makes me nervous only for the fact that if it is next gen only then I won't be getting the game for a while. I can't afford $60 for the game and a new console on top of that. I can only keep my fingers crossed that if it is on next gen that it is also on current gen console. I usually buy multiple platforms due to the fact that I game on console but some of my family games on PC but with the way PC specs change all the time it may not play on the perfectly good computer that we have right now.

Yes, I saw this too.  Was totally bummed to read that. Posted Image

Edit: lost the rest of my thought when I edited.Posted Image  What I had stated before was that if the W3 doesn't come out for a couple of years then maybe I can get the console a little while after release and then the game at release.

Think of it this way on which gen consoles will they make more money and the answer is current gen since not that many people will buy the new systems and would then buy DA3 since not many people can afford to buy it. Also I think they just about confirmed import options

You also got to remember the fact DA3 will have save importing. Sorry if I'm wrong but I know of no console game that can import save date from the previous generation.

Rpg fantasy yeah I hope so too but I thought I would import my my witcher 2 to the witcher 3. But they said at earliest 2014 so maybe it will have been out for a while
