I won't have an issue with french accents unless they go the Lady Isolde route. If they do then i'll just end up killing everyone :<

You french hater you.

I want all accents: french, spanish, german even swedish. But only on gurls y'know the male ones always are so deep voiced.

The point is, THERE SHOULD BE NO FRENCH ACCENTS.

Buy the French version of Dragon Age 2. Does Hawke speak in French with an English accent? No, he just speaks in French in a FRENCH ACCENT, despite coming from the 'English part' of Ferelden.

Similarly, should an Orlesian speak with a French accent? No, because he isn't speaking *French*, he's just speaking English in a French accent, which sounds annoying and wrong, because that's not the way it's generally pronounced.

EDIT:  Just to prove that I am not making this up, here's a dialogue containing French Hawke.

Not all french people sound like Pepe LePew. There's plenty of range in the French accent that it could most certainly be done without being awful. Whether or not Bioware is going to manage it... well, frankly, most of the French/Orlesian accents we've seen so far in DA have been awful, even the ones by real French people. Marjolaine for example.

So I am a tiny bit worried it might be a 60-hour game of terrible French accents. But only a tiny bit.

That's because he  raised mostly in Fereldan. His parents were from Andersfeld.

Yes voice actor from awakening sounded a bit more anderfelsian.

But i guess native speakers never like accents.
From all the codex i have read it is a good thing to have accents, easier to see where from thedas the character is from.

It would get kinda annoying. As would everyone having a very american accent for example. British accents suit the world best but I dont know how the devs would explain orlesians having the same accent as fereldans.

If we assume everybody's speaking Orlesian I guess it's okay to have most characters using English accents. I've always preferred this approach to what I consider the tacky Hollywood technique which was used in Schindler's List (a movie I otherwise have a lot of respect for); I was hardly going to have trouble telling the Jews apart from the Germans/ ****s. Just because characters aren't speaking English (or Ferelden in the case of a DA game) doesn't mean I need to be reminded of it every second.

On the other hand if the majority of the French accents are subtle enough and there's a good representation of other cultures (Dalish elves, Dwarves, Fereldens, Free Marchers, etc.) in Orlais and everybody's speaking in Ferelden because it's the common language of trade/ diplomacy, then I'd be okay with that too.

Nobody seems to complain too loudly about silly accents in Skyrim, with more than half the male Nords sounding like Arnie, e.g. "You arghh guilt-ee of moordah and coonspiracy!!"

Is there actually supposed to be an Orlesian language, or do they just speak the same language as the Fereldens but with a regional accent?
