Who is the better writer?

I'm tempted to say David Gaider since Drew Karpyshyn was a jerk to me when he called my story idea I emailed to him for a Mass Effect kart racing spin off the dumbest he had ever heard, but still overall I would have to give the edge to Karpyshyn.

Perhaps that is because I have been exposed to more of his work.

How do you know it's dumb if you haven't even read it?

Well, I haven't read any of David Gaider's books yet, so I really can't say. I do recall seeing something on Drew's website that pretty much said he doesn't want to have people ask his opinion on stories they are writing because he doesn't want to potentially take someone's idea for a story.

Why hasn't anyone burned the OP at the stake for spouting such heresy ?

Alright then, let me summarize my idea.

*mass effect spoiler warning*

The game serves as a midquel between the events of Mass Effect 1 and 2.  The galaxy has been saved, and all is at peace.

However, the citadel council has made a terrible revelation.  There is another reaper within the galaxy besides Sovereign.  It lies dormant and it has been captured by space pirates in the Terminus systems.
The terminus systems are in a state of constant civil war and they hope to sponsor a kart racing tournament to raise funds to pay off their war debts.
The prize...the reaper itself!

Unfortunately, another discovery was made.  Saren wasn't killed in the battle to save the citadel.  His memory was uploaded onto a Geth super computer along with a sample of his DNA which was used to clone him a new body and upload his consciousness into a bio-mechanical, Geth augmented brain.  Saren has been reborn and thirsts for vegenace against those who stopped his nefarious plans.
Worst yet, Saren was a kart racing champion before becoming a Spectre and has joined the kart racing tournament in hopes of winning the reaper.  Nobody else knows how to activate the reaper, but Saren does thanks to Sovereign's influence.

Fortunately...there is a little somebody else who did a bit of karting back in the day.  Thats right, Commander Shepard is back!
The council was skeptical in letting Shepard represent the citadel in the coming race but Shepard convinced them saying that if he could defeat Saren on the battlefield, he could beat him on the track.
The council agrees to the race believing it is the best way to re-acquire the reaper without starting a war with the Terminus systems.

The fate of the galaxy rests in your hands...and steering wheel!

It would be a great idea!   It would be the first plot driven kart racing game that could appeal to mass effect fans, and kart racing fans as well.
It would be revolutionary and I offered to give the idea to Drew Karpyshyn for free on condition that he build on the idea.
He spat it back in my face!
We could've been a team.  Screw that guy.  I feel guilty about enjoying his work.

I felt that David Gaider's novels were better written than Drew Karpyshyn's, but I see no need to compare them. Mass Effect and Dragon Age are great games.

Also, your "kart racing" does sound pretty dumb.

The citadel wouldn't be able to do that for two reasons.

1.They don't know where the reaper is, only that it is in possession of pirates within the terminus system.

2.Invading the terminus system would start an intergalactic war which would kill hundreds of millions if not billions of lives and losing the war would mean not only the end of citadel controlled space, but also the chance to destroy the reaper.

This is a joke topic right? Cause if it is... I seem to be missing out on the 'funny' part.

BTW, that is a really dumb idea for a story. I hope you're kidding...

I preferred David's novels to Drew's, but I don't think I can reasonably extrapolate from that that David is the better writer, or even that David's novels were superior. I liked them more, but I have no reason to believe that I'm a good judge of literary quality (assuming such a thing could be measured).

Comparing their in-game work is even more pointless as they're writing entirely different sorts of games.

The topic is on who you think is the better writer. That is obviously not a joke question.

If you mean whether my idea is supposed to be a joke. Ok, I get it. You think it's a bad idea. Next time just say so. I can handle constructive criticism but you don't need to be such a jerk about it.

Maybe you could tell me why you think it's a dumb idea? Mass Effect should expand as a franchise and spin off games shouldn't neglect the game's rich lore.

I also have ideas about a Dragon Age Kart racing game but I haven't been able to contact David Gaider. Perhaps he will be more respectful to his fans.

Why is this a bad idea? Five words: Star Wars Super Bombad Racing.

I had that game for the Dreamcast, I agree it sucked.

However, that game butchered and outright parodied Star Wars' lore. My game idea pays proper tribute to it and in fact enriches it.

Have you realized that had someone taken that idea on a serious basis, then the makes of Mario kart would be suing BioWare into next mellenium.

Nintendo can't sue Bioware for making a kart racing game unless they included Nintendo characters without their permission. Nintendo doesn't own the kart racing genre.

And yes I do have a game idea for Dragon Age Kart and it is not a joke.

I think you remember my topic in the Off Topic forums about this. You commented in there.

I'll post it here for anyone interested.

I was thinking of a great idea for a sequel/spin off for Dragon Age. It should be a kart racing game which follows up on the events of Dragon Age Origins.

It would be called Dragon Age Kart:The Revenge of Loghain.

Here is the plot and premise...

2 years have passed since the slaying of the arch demon, the darkspawn hordes have been hunted down by an alliance of human nations like Ferelden, Orlais, Anderfels, etc.. All is at peace.

However, there is one thing they did not anticipate.

Before Loghain's death his extreme hatred of the Orlesians attracted a rage demon. The rage demon possessed Loghain shortly after his death and so great was Loghain's hatred of the Orlesians that it manifested even after his last breath was drawn.

Loghain is reborn as an undead abomination. The rage demon gorges itself on the hatred that Loghain felt towards his enemies, the Orlesians and now also Ferelden and their new king Allistair.

Loghain devises a plan to destroy both of his enemies. He summons demons to possess the slain troops from Ostagar whose bodies were never recovered, and still adorned in their Ferelden uniforms launches an invasion of the Orlesian empire.

The Orlesians are shocked that Ferelden would break their peace treaty and prepare for an all out war with Ferelden.

The chantry from both nations intervenes and decides that rather through bloodshed the Maker deems it necessary to solve this dispute through an event which predates the founding of both the Orlesian Empire and the Kingdom of Ferelden....

Kart racing.

Before the first blight, magical go-karts powered by Lyrium infused engines would be used as sport in the Tevinter Imperium.

The art of constructing such vehicles was thought to have been lost following the fall of the Imperium, but fortunately some dwarves in the Shaperate managed to uncover the lost art and are comissioned by the Chantry to construct karts for the finest, and bravest racers in all Thedas for a grand kart racing tournament.

The prize? The loser of the tournament must yield to the opposing nation by the will of the maker meaning occupation and dissolution of the nation's presiding government.

The racers recruited for Ferelden are none other than the companions of the Grey Warden! It is deemed logical that those who faced the arch demon should have what it takes to beat the Orlesians on the track.

Unfortunately, there is another racer neither side had anticipated. Thats right, TERYN LOGHAIN! He has forsaken his allegiance to Ferelden and has feigned loyalty towards the Orlesians whom he despises. His goal is to defeat Ferelden in the race, massacre their armies and then use his own undead army to finish off what is left of the Orlesians to destroy both of the nations and create an empire of DEATH!

Being that it would obviously be a Bioware game I think they should also have cameo racers like Wrex, Revan, Commander Shepard, and HK-47.

What do you guys think?

Why not? You think Mario holds a monopoly on the Kart Racing genre?

You may not like Kart Racing games but many people such as myself do. If Dragon Age and Mass Effect are going to be franchises, wouldn't a true fan want to see it expand to as many genres as possible?

So long as the concept is well explained, many genres are possible.

I was thinking a Dragon Age fighting game would be awesome. Soul Caliber is getting stale as the only fantasy weapon based fighter franchise out there, don't you think?

Then maybe you will die. Pedantic, close minded, so called "hardcore gamers" who take such a rigid approach towards their franchises are not large enough for businesses to consider lucrative.

There are millions of gamers in the world who enjoy many different genres of play. Just because you limit yourself to one genre doesn't mean you're some sort of charity that the industry needs to pay tithing too.

Bioware is a business and it's goal is to make money. If they're smart, they'll build upon my idea.
