Oh noes! Why developers keep doing this! If i'm going to play a game I need to back up my saves!

This can't be true! Someone can confirm please?

He's right, you can't back your saves up.

Besides PS+, there's another way: you can backup your entire PS3 to an external USB hard disk, something I urge you to do if you if you don't have PS+. It's in the XMB Settings -> System Settings -> Backup Utility. This copies over all content (save games, patches, DLC, settings, the lot) onto that hard drive. When you restore from this backup, your PS3 will look the same as it did when you made that backup.

I know because I replaced the internal hard drive with a bigger hybrid one yesterday (no, not because of ME1... well, maybe a little bit :innocent:), and it restored all save games, even the protected ones.

Both cause i've seen some improvements, including framerate seems smoother (Omega) no-longer lags

Hit detection. This seems way off. I don't think I'm hitting the enemy when I'm aiming square at the little triangle. Feels like I'm shooting rocks. Really loud ones that don't do anything. Luckily, my squadmates are better than I am. I'll never beat this on Insanity.

That's because ME1 does not function like a shooter where what you shoot is what you get. ME1 has dice rolls for attacks, similar to BG, NWN, KotOR, SWTOR, DAO, DA2 etc. When you aim for an enemy, you're basically telling the game "this is the guy I want to roll my attacks against," and then the dice starts rolling when you press the fire button.

Yeah, it's not very intuitive. Some people feel it makes it more of an RPG since you have skills that upgrade accuracy and whatnot to separate your own skill from Shepard's, which I suppose is a fine opinion to have. I just happen not to share it =)

Hmm, interesting, I may have to check that out.

Does anyone know if with the new patch for Mass effect 2, they added the missing content such as Conrad and Shiala on Illium? And can we now have Kirraha survive Virmire and see him on Sur'Kesh in Mass Effect 3?

Thank you all for the answers. That really put me off... Does ME2 and 3 let you backup your save? Is just ME1 that won't?

I wont get PS+ because if you get any game at PSN that has a PS+ discount and later you decide you don't want to pay it anymore you loose that game (yeah it sucks)

I regularly do a full backup but thats no solution, it is a very read/write intensive operation both to the PS3 and USB drive, and will certainly decrease the lifespan of both drives.

Ok, PS3 question, Long Service Medal Trophy in Mass Effect 2, will I get that from an import character or do I have to do a run through with a character and the comic to get it? Did the update change the requirement for the trophy? Realize this might be a little too early to ask but I didn't remember seeing anything in patch notes regarding it.

Not necessarily. If you get a game at a discount, but you still have to pay for it (let's say, it's 50% off for PS+ subscribers), you get to keep that game even if you cancel your subscription.

If you get a game for free, then you're correct, you can't play that game anymore if you stop your subscription. However, if at some point in the future you decide to become a PS+ member again, you regain access to those games, even if they aren't free anymore at the time you re-join.

And no, I'm not affiliated with Sony in any way, I'm just a very happy subscriber ^_^
Just this week, I got Arkham City, Limbo and Vanquish for freeB)

I keep on subscribing because A - I like having full games like Batman Arkham City and B - I like to have my saves on the Cloud.

Besides, it's only about £30-40 a year, so it's worth the price tag, especially with the cloud storage. You can't put a price on having a peace of mind.

Adding in the Vita games as well sealed it for me.

As far as I know, they haven't added anything other than the option to import a save from ME1. However, the content you're refering to has always been there, but earlier it wasn't possible to access it. Now it is, since you can import a save from ME1.

Yeah, the content is now available for PS3 users. You will be able to gain access to the missing characters and such.

So uh, what brightness setting did everyone use for ME2?

ME1 default brightness/picture setting is perfect, ME3 was dark as hell though it looked perfect at +2.

How many playthroughs would be needed to get 100% trophies? And would it be better to start from Insanity or not? I remember from ME2 that importing a character from previous playthrough on insanity was actually insane, because enemies scaled with you, BUT you had no weapon upgrades and such, while starting from lvl 1 was a cake walk.

Also, will the forum allow to register Mass Effect 1 like it does with the other games?

And what's up with the ugly icon for ME1 under trophies? It totally doesn't fit ME2 and 3's stylish icons.

At least three. You can't do Hardcore until you beat it once. You can't do Insanity until you beat Hardcore.

At least 3. Unfortunately you can't start with Insanity. You have to play through the game once to unlock Hardcore and then play through the game again with Hardcore to unlock Insanity.
In adddition there are Trophies for completing the majority of the game with each of the team mates -> 3 playthroughs with 2 different team mates.
And in addition to that, there are Trophies for the different skills and weapons. Get 150 kills with each weapon, use 75 times each biotic power and tech skill and it only counts if done by your Shepard -> engineer and adept playthrough recommended.

PS+ is fantastic, but what I don't like is that it seems like Sony only cares about PS+ subscribers now, throwing free games, discount and everything at them whole non-subscribers get shafted with overpriced content, low-download speeds etc. It's beggining to look like Xbox Live Silver/Gold disparity...

If it wasn't for the free rotating games, I'd have stayed a regular member. Never had any download problems or anything like that on my account before I upgraded.  I was non-plus for well over 2 years without issue.  I've yet to actually take any of the discounts either. I'm only plus for the free access to games and the stealth updates to my system while I'm asleep.

This is definitely good advice and the best way to protect to PS3's data *HOWEVER* please be aware that if you are switching to a new PS3, and use the backup from your old PS3, copy protected data WILL NOT be restored to the new PS3. It will only restore all data on the PS3 system that was used for the backup.

Really lame that ME1 saves are protected. ME2 and ME3's aren't, what makes 1 so different? BioWare please give us some insight into this issue - ME1 is very time consuming and for players to lose their save data would be very heartbreaking.

So far I am addicted to ME1 on PS3 way too many Sidequests lol I haven't done much on Main quest other than getting the Asari lol I missed the mako the hammerhead from ME2 felt lame hehe at least Conrad got my autograph and picture :P

So far voiceovers sometimes does not play I haven't noticed any framerate probs and the textures.  The only thing that irks me is the long Saving time and sound that is louder than it should be like Joker over the PA.   Bio thank you so much for bringing out ME1 to PS3!   Long time in the making and its worth it!

I spent a lot of time on the Citadel yesterday. And late last night, I had no idea at all what I'd find on the mission that eventually resulted in my finding Liara. First it seemed like just a Mako mission, then I hit a dead end...then I realised I had to get out of the Mako. Likewise, after slugging up the hill, I realised how much an improvement ME2 made to squad tactics. Anyways, that was a really long mission.

It's been a great experience regardless, I see what people miss from the first part of the trilogy, but I also see the things that were improved upon.

Dear mother of god! I've never died so much in a game. I've lost count how many times those synthatic ******** killed me in Eden Prime. I could play Insanity mode in ME2 and ME3 just fine but I have to switch to casual mode just to get through ME1.

Has anyone had this sort of experience? It was getting pretty annoying. Still love the game though.
