I havent been keeping up with Mass Effect news recently. Did they finally release ME1 for PS3? Also, I got a patch update for ME2 which is strange since the game is so old. Any explanation for this?

Yes, ME1 is now on PS3. You can either get it in physical format in Mass Effect Trilogy package or as Digital Download from PS Store ($15). The new patch for ME2 enables the import function so you can import your ME1 save. And before you ask yes, Conrad Verner and all other stuff is there and will transfer and show up in ME2 (assuming you make the right choices in ME1 of course)

yes me1 is out for the ps3 but it only has the one story dlc as part it.

The second one, Pinnacle Station is not a story DLC at all. It's a space station with combat simulations. Nothing more.

Speaking of Conrad, is the Conrad glitch still in the PS3 version? Would elaborate more but y'know, spoilers I guess.

Just finished my first playthrough.

Quite buggy but enjoyable. I could really use a patch for it though.

The music and sound effects totally dropped out when the Alliance were attacking Sovereign. It totally ruined the moment and broke my immersion.

Yeah that happened in the first part of teh battle to me when the fleet first drops in after you've picked who to save.

Haven't gotten far enough in my ME2 import to see yet.  I'm betting they didn't fix the save bug from ME1, but we shall see.

I got through ME2, and he showed up for me.  Course Shep put a gun in his face in ME1.

The Conrad glitch is still there. They likely didn't fix it because it's already sort of addressed in ME3.

The framerate in the PS3 version is excactly the same as in the Xbox 360 version, though the screen-tearing is completely gone. Sometimes it's 30fps and sometimes it dips. It still feels pretty rough but i don't have an issue with it.

They removed motion blur though, and you can still toggle it on/off for some reason.

The PS3 version of ME1 has notable improvements over the Xbox 360 version. The PS3 version has much improved performance as well as much less texture pop-in. The PS3 version also has no frame tearing at all, unlike the Xbox 360 version. Also on the Xbox 360 version the film grain effect makes the game look ugly as hell on a HDTV. On the PS3 version the film grain effect actually looks pretty good. The PS3 version is also less dark than the Xbox 360 version. On Xbox 360 the game is dark as hell and you need to adjust the brightness on your TV. On PS3 the game looks fine right out the box.

The PS3 version does still appear to have all the same glitches that the Xbox 360 had though. For example PS3 version also has the bug with that mission on the Citadel where you have to scan the keepers and sometimes one of the keepers gets stuck in the floor and can't be scanned. And sometimes your squadmates will switch to a different weapon even though you never ordered them to do so. And the game is known to crash when you do that mission on the moon and get your advanced class. (The game crashes the moment you destroy the final AI conduit and get your advanced class). It's a shame BioWare did not decide to fix these bugs with this version of the game, but it is nice that they fixed the technical issues (framerate, texture pop-in, etc.).

At any right go play the Xbox 360 version and then play the PS3 version afterward. You will notice the PS3 version does indeed have better performance.

I'm afraid I'm gonna have to completely disagree with you there. I am one of the biggest Mass Effect fans out there, so I have all 3 games (and all DLC) on the PC AND the Xbox 360 (also Mass Effect 2 on PS3) and have played them countless number of times. I downloaded the PS3 version of Mass Effect 1 from the PSN, when it came out and have just finished a playthrough, doing every possible quest available and I have to say I'm really disappointed, I expected improvements, but noooo - I have owned a PS3 much longer than an Xbox, because I thought it was the better console, now I'm not so sure, it is the ONLY time playing it, that it seemed like a chore, I encountered so many bugs, glitches, framerate issues and crashes, like never before, not to mention the LONG loading and saving times. Sure, I have experienced some (and I stress, SOME) of the bugs on the Xbox and PC versions, but since I have had Mass Effect 1 on Xbox 360, (3 years+ and I've played through at least every 2 or 3 weeks within that time - yes I'm that mad on it) it has never frozen up on me, the PS3 version crashed about 5 times in one playthrough and no there is nothing wrong with my PS3 because all my other games are fine.

Besides that, when I was on Noveria, the framerate was so terrible I couldn't continue playing and had to restart, I experienced framerate issues in other parts aswell. Also, the texture pop in was WORSE than on the Xbox 360, Saren's face had completely no texture for a whole cutscene, that's how bad it was. I'm telling you, I couldn't wait to finish the game, and I have never said that before, but Mass Effect 1 on PS3 is not better than on the PC or Xbox 360, at least in my case, but I'm sure I'm not the only one. Personally I don't think I will be playing it again on the PS3, only to get all the trophies, but after that it's back to the Xbox and PC versions.

The crashing and the longer load times are real issues with the PS3 version, however your claims about the framerate and texture pop-in are just not true.

According to Digital Foundry, the performance is significantly better on PS3 and there is less texture pop-in.

EDIT:

Not saying the game performs perfectly on PS3. It still performs pretty badly compared to other games.

I assure you it's true, I would not lie about a game I love so much on a console that I've been loyal to from day one.....if anything, that article is complete and utter rubbish!

Noveria runs bad on both PS3 and 360 though. You can check the framerate analysis yourself. It's even worse on 360 because there is screen-tearing.

And just like you I have both versions.

Well, I never noticed any framerate drops at all on Noveria, on the Xbox 360 version, so perhaps don't assume everyone's going to be the same. I dunno, maybe it's to do with the console's age, or how much hard drive space they've got, or the game version itself, but I for one, didn't experience most of what other people did on the Xbox version and apparantly I'm not getting the same as other people on the PS3 either.

I've never experienced framerate drops that bad in any game, apart from Dragon Age Origins on the PS3 and unless I was dreaming or seeing things, the texture pop in of Mass Effect was very bad on the PS3.

Okay, so, overall, I'm like "alright, that's cool, whatevs", but when he threw out that line about the port taking 23 years, even though I assume that's supposed to be some kind of joke (though what kind I couldn't tell you)  I was physically incapable of rolling my eyes hard enough.  Seriously.  I think I sprained something.

I think it varies from the different hardware versions of the PS3 as well as luck o the loading draw.  Noveria loaded smooth as silk for me and the only time I had textuer pop in issues was in the first council scene with Saren and that only lasted a second or two, I barely noticed it, and then later during the final fight with Saren where it cuts back and forth from the fleet to the fight.  That was the only time I had the game framerate slow to a crawl either was in that last battle.  This was also the one of two times where the game froze up right after the fight lading up the next cutscene.  Before that it was fine.

While I won't argue you had that experience, there are some of us that it has been a beautiful game overall on the PS3.  I actually prefer this version over my PC version.

During the Benezia fight the game ran like crap for me, very glitchy. Shepard kept walking in the air for some reason.

Oh and can someone explain why the hell they locked the ME1 save files? I like to transfer between my 2 PS3's (upstairs and downstairs) but can''t because of this stupid lock. The ME2/3 files aren't locked so why do it to the ME1 files?

No news, but I think it is extremely unlikely. (Note that this is just opinion. No real news has surfaced.)

Edge of Reality had ported the game so that it is roughly of the same quality of ME1 on other systems. To expect them to update a 6 year old game to get it up to current standards is a tad unrealistic, and truth be told, has little upside in terms of business. Not to mention, as many of the issues went unfixed in the original game, fixing them in a port would be problematic, to say the least.

Happens on ME1 on PC, and probably on Xbox. Also happens quite frequently (for me anyway) on ME2 for PS3.

That happened to me during the Benezia fight, but I think the same happened when I played it on the PC.

Anyways, that was the biggest issue I had with the PS3 version of ME1. Most of the time the game ran well and I'm pleased with what EOR did.

I just completed it today. :D
