How do you create your characters in RPGs? Do you model them after yourself or not?

Poll here:

I, for one, chose option 2: before starting a game (I rarely do multiple playthroughs), I decide one personality that I find interesting, and then run with it.

For example, in DAO my Elf Mage was a decent, soft-spoken guy, but somewhat weak and insecure (maybe all those years in the Circle?). When he started romancing Morrigan, although she was the polar opposite of him in terms of personality, it didn't seem out of character - he was the kind of guy who ends up being dominated by strong, charismatic women. She even pushed him to take a few less-than-nice decisions. In fact, he suddenly reminded me of a nice but spineless friend of mine who got married to an arrogant hagImage IPB

Before I even started DA2, I had decided to go for something completely different: my Hawke was charismatic, determinate, someone who doesn't take anybody's crap.

What about you? Are your characters like yourself, or are they all different?

One or two characters end up being relatively similar to myself, but overall, they're all different. I'd choose option 2.
