This whole thing with the Architect was interesting. I don't know what the writers were thinking by abdndoning it. The mage/templar storyline is so uninteresting. The wirtes insist on beating you over the head with "you should care!" but never actually give you any reasons why you should care.

It's one of the (many) reasons I didn't like Dragon Age 2.

Didn't I turn Cory into mush in DA2? I'll have to go watch it on you tube. I was sure I killed him.

You do, but it's strongly hinted that his spirit is inside Janeka/Laurius.

i actually find the mage templar-war cool and intersting. It's nto compared to the Darkspawn LORE, but still makes a good storyline.

What do you find interesting about it?

I believe Cory and the Architect are exactly who they were implied to be in Legacy - Tevinter Magisters who went to the Golden City, "turned it black," and came back as the first Darkspawn. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a few more of them out there we've yet to meet. The only question I really have is whether or not the Black city was always Black, or if it was Gold and they turned it Black, like the Chantry says.

I have no idea why these original darkspawn would want to manipulate the world into the mage/templar war, but I guess if their reason was predictable, it would be a crappy story. So I'd be excited to find out that's the case, cos it seems like a cool idea to me.

I like to think that we'll eventually find out the truth behind the Maker Golden City/Black City thing, but that would probably have to be the last Dragon Age game, cos there basically isn't any story after you discover the ultimate Truth. So I think they're just sprinkling all these different story threads throughout the games to make people interested in them. Its probably more likely that the Mage/Templar War is being manipulated by the Qunari or the Tevinter or someone else entirely. And then after that's resolved, future games will start looking more into what's up with these "original darkspawn" guys.

The Architect's plan is pretty crafty in a horrifying kind of way. I literally just finished re-reading The Calling two hours ago so his plan is pretty fresh in my mind and I can totally see how it could play in to the mage/templar war. The war itself is not his goal, but I can see how his meddling could have caused the rift between mages and templar to grow at least. I'm trying to be vague so I don't spoil the book for anyone planning to read it, but it's making it difficult to get my point across so I'll have to give some spoilers. Anyone who doesn't want the book spoiled, stop reading!

*****SPOILER WARNING FOR "THE CALLING"*****

The Architect's plan is twofold: First to destroy the Old Gods before they can be tainted by the darkspawn, second to unleash the taint upon Thedas. Those who survive will essentially become grey wardens and his theory is that those survivors and the darkspawn can live in peace if the Old Gods have been destroyed and the darkspawn freed from their call. To accomplish this he enlisted the aid of Remille, the First Enchanter of the Fereldan circle, who, with the Architects help, developed the means to unleash the taint in large cities without the darkspawn being physically present. He also happened to be Orlesian and intended to save the Emperor from being tainted and would have delivered Maric as a gift to the Emperor prior to unleashing the taint had he not been stopped, but that's beside the point.

*****END OF SPOILERS*****

So given the Architect's actions and those of his allies, it's not entirely unlikely that his plan was relayed to others in Orlais who could be taking steps to carry it out. Assuming that he's dead and didn't live past Awakening. If he's still alive he could very well have other allies that are helping him.

My point being that while the mage/templar war isn't the goal of the Architect or any other darkspawn similar to him, his actions and the actions of those like him could play a part in the conflict by causing whoever has allied with them to do things that end up widening the mage/templar rift even if only inadvertently.

Lol, the Architect wants to spread the taint to everyone in Thedas and then destroy the Old Gods. Interesting that he doesn't mention that little bit of information, no? Glad I killed him. Now maybe when we get proper information on DA3 I'll get the will to reply DA2 and buy its DLC.

Canon or no canon, we won't be seeing Corypheus!

He's dead, Jim!

Deal with it.

And what about Morrigan. She knows more than she wants to tell us - also "yet". I believe that Blight isn't coming anytime soon, but the mage/templar conflict is gonna explode and create something maybe even more puzzling then the nature of the Blight and Architect itself. For me, Mother is dead, that part of the plot is gone.

Actually. Morrigan doesn't even know what Flemeth trully is. She only sees Flemeth as an evil being.

Well, I'm not so sure about that. Not totally, at least. Morrigan is up to someting, and my gut felling is, she will come back with a bang, the 'child secret' or whatever, that will shape the universe of DA for the years to come. At least partially.

Doesn't matter. The storyline has been abandoned.
