Will we at least experience why we became Inquisitors?

I understand that this is Dragon Age: Inquisition not Dragon Age: Origins.

I am deeply upset that we will not have additional races, but I can live with that if the character creation has truely become much more customizable. I still enjoyed Dragon Age 2, afterall, without additional races. It did irk me that character creation was not expanded much.

If one storytelling point continues to be missing, it will kill my immersion and may drive me away from this genre entirely. I dislike Skyrim ( what feels like aimless wondering and lacking meaningful companionship) and Dragon's Dogma (flashy with poor control and special effects/gimmics over story), so I don't have much else to turn to. I enjoy your storytelling, so this would be a big loss to me. This storytelling point is a starting point for my immersion into the story.

In Origins, I knew why I became a Grey Warden because I experienced it. I felt like it was my story, and I was immersed in it. In Dragon Age 2, this immersion was shortened, but it was still present. I was Hawke, I became the Champion of Kirkwall because I needed to escape the Blight and make my way into this new world of the Free Marches. I experienced my escape from the Blight first hand, and I made the choices that led me to become the Champion of Kirkwall.

I do not, and I repeat: I do not, want to simply be an Inquisitor sent off into a mission with no sense of self besides the random choices I stumble upon during a mission. I want to experience my character becoming an Inquisitor, if that is what they are to become. I do not mind if some training and studying periods between that and undertaking of my mission are fast forwared or entirely skipped. I really do not mind. I want a better starting point than being told I am something and being thrown into a mission.

I do not know what the plans are. I have heard rumors that there will be Backgrounds instead of Origins to choose. I have apprehension because of these rumors. The background concept was something that bothered me most about Mass Effect besides the first person shooter feel (I hate shooters and dislike guns in games reguardless).

I can wait for an response. Dev's, you can put this topic on your favorites/saved/etc list for later and wait til January, 1 2013 to respond to me. I just want to know as soon as you can possibly tell me. If you can give me a hint now in this topic or in private messages, I would be overjoyed. I know I might be asking for much.

The Inquisition is a sufficiently critical part of the plot that we named the entire game after it. You can probably assume that your relationship to it will factor significantly into the story. The start of the game will help you to establish how and why you are involved in the plot, yes.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why Mary is my favorite.
