The title here pretty much sums it up...

There's going to be a Day One DLC pack for DA3, that I have no doubt in my mind. Given the track record, I would say this will be a optional companion, along with a recruitment quest. Where all of their dialogue will be already recorded and on the disc, cinematics fully fleshed out and on the disc, combat animations fully fleshed out and on the disc and all banter, conversations and NPC interactions already completed and on the disc... but there was one thing that couldn't be handled outside of a DLC. And it just always happens to be an uncompleted part of a non-crucial companion's storyline... seems highly unlikely unless they someone might have planned it that way... <_<

...but, let's just assume for shirts and giggles I am wrong.  Or even that I'm not!

What do you think the DA3 Day One DLC will be or involve?

Companions, items, codex, shops and gold for sure. They way I like. Whomever, we could know more about the game if Bioware realesed the last DA2 DLC.

Day One DLC is kind of obvious and I hope they do it like DAO and not ME3 (new copies of the game includes the DLC).

I don't have anything against Day1 DLC it's a good way to get some extra time to work on stuff after the game is gold.
Charging new copies of the game for it however is, bleh. (I wouldn't have bought ME3 if I didn't found the N7E really cheap).

Day One DLCs:
DAO: Shale & Warden's Keep
DA2: Sebastian
ME2: Zaeed
ME3: Javik

DA3: I'd guess it will be a companion, just hope the content will be as good as The Stone Prisoner.

So long as it's not on the disc I don't really mind. A companion seems almost certain, one like Shale would be great. Would be nice if it could be free for pre-orders and/or new purchases.

Pre Orders/Limited Editions will get a new companion with a second (or third) armour set for the others. The character will have been planned in so s/he can be part of the party banter. The recruitment quest will NOT be on the disk though the character assets will be. The character will NOT have a central role in any main quest or at least not one more important than any other party member.

Included will be bonus weapons and equipment useful for early gameplay. Also, the digital soundtrack and a 'making of' movie will be as well.

Is it cynical to feel extremely confidenet that this is 100% accurate, over a year before a game is released, but that we will be fed the line of 'it was content we just didn't have time to finish' when release day actually comes? Is that jaded, or is that just being a realist?

Javik was a known quantity (Prothy the Prothean) 8 months before the actual release of the game, along with the armour models for the rest of the squad (at least Liara, Ashley and Kaidan) in the N7 Edition. I have to give the ME3 team some slack because the game was pushed back from a before Christmas release to March 6th and I have to assume that the character assets/VO work was done in time for the Christmas time frame.

That being said, the Bioware non sense of Javik not being on the disk and wasn't done until after the game was packaged is complete bullshirt. The game was late to release to get the MP, Kinect, etc work done. Bioware couldn't say that because there would be no justifcation for CHARGING money for work that was already budgetted and done in the game development.

All in all, every EA title will have Day 1 DLC that is either paid or free if you pre order. Dragon Age seems to not have as much as a following as Mass Effect and a way to increase pre orders is Bioware's habit of bumping all pre orders to Limited/Collector Editions before a set time (usually before the beta is released for testing or at latest, before the Demo). As such, I will be highly surprised if the Day 1 DLC isn't a character/mission/armour/loot combination.

I'd quite like dwarven Shale to be the dlc. She's been Wynne's companion for years so she would be able to give an outsider's view of the mage rebellion build-up.

I had to override the "DEFEND BIOWARE" tic that I've developed since joining here, largely thanks to the tons of venom and unwarranted negativity mind you, but no I don't think you're being cyncial. But that's business for yah. I don't condemn them for it exactly but it's kind of a moral grey area. xp

I'd rather they have a mod kit as Day One DLC. Or optional Multiplayer as D1DLC.

Instead, we will get content that has been planned for months and hand-picked to be DLC, forced Multiplayer and no mod kit.

What a world, what a world...

If I have to live with Day 1 DLC to make sure its the same development team to work on all the other DLC I will accept it. I might not like it, but at least I will know there will be consistency with the DLC and main game.

I think you are right about your speculation OP and ParkerArt as well. And if you are right I will not give them any of my money.

"Why not, you may ask? Bioware has done this times before."
True. But back then I wasn't pissed off at Bioware. The last drop and all that.

Most likely a companion, because

1. Extra companions pretty much need to be planned during development
2. You want to be able to play through the game with the companion, you can't just play it through after you've finished.

(I won't be buying the game at release if I have to pay extra for a companion)

It'll be a companion, they'll do what they always do...I hope the DLC companion is Cullen because it'll ****** people off even more than usual

Well, I'll be disappointed if they make it a significant companion as they did for DA2. I didn't get the Sebastian dlc until after I'd played the game through once and just had to shake my head when he turned out to be a big player in the story that was ripped from the game, especially in Act 3. See 4:27 for relevent content: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FC5TlGPGfQ8.

It is not like it was Zaeed from ME2 who only had his loyalty mission and other than in game banter, was a side character in comparison to other companions. I haven't played ME3 with the Javik dlc so can't speak to his invovlement in the game. This track record doesn't bode well for DA3 I'm afraid, but then Bioware isn't exactly in the best of graces with its fans and may have to act accordingly.

If you feel strongly that Sebastian was part of the DA2 story, then you would DEFINITELY feel that Javik was crucial to the ME3 plot. He has comments that give background on a key scene during the main plot of ME3 and has lots of interesting lore and backstory.

In addition, he was original written as the Catalyst, not the Citadel. So... originally VITAL.

I don't think arguing that Day One DLC is only OK if it's not very good and doesn't relate to the plot is likely to be very successful.

Sebastian was part of the core story in DA2. Was Kasumi like that in ME2? No, it was a quality dlc but like Zaeed was just a nice addition to the game. What if they had made Legion dlc? That would have been different. We are now used to getting incomplete games even after we've paid $60. Will that change? Nope, and that sucks.

I think it will be for the Tal-Vashoth companion Iron Bull.  (It's not confirmed that he's a companion.  He's from the survey.  And there's DA2 concept art that could have been an early version of him.)
