How do you get from commons to proving grounds?

Cross the bridge and talk to the guard outside the door.
Exit the home of (can't remember his name, sorry) the Dwarf who gives you the quest, head right up the stairs, then head left across the brigde (you can't go either right or forward as these ways are blocked). When your on the other side, talk to the guard.. you'll be able to get to the proving grounds then

Figures that to go north of the commons you go south....Thanks
