Talking behind the PCs back

One of the things that DA2 had that seemed a little out of place, was when the PC was talked about by companions in banter, 95% of the time the PC didn't make a comment. Both Legacy and MotA changed this a bit, Hawke was more vocal in peoples banters.

Will the PC stay vocal in banters in DA:I? Or will they go back to letting people talk about them behind their back?

I'd rather have less banter and instead have more conversations where I get to roleplay.

I dislike the PC talking without my control.

Yes. In fact, we're testing out a way for the player to chime in occasionally-- not with an automatic line, but with a chosen response. It'll also be an opt-in system, so you can choose to chime in on the banter or remain silent and let them talk. We'll see if that ends up working as we expect, but I consider it the ideal evolution of the system.

I really, really hope this is something they keep, and expound upon, in the next game. I LOVE party banter and it was just so much better when my Hawke contributed.

EDIT:

That does sound pretty cool, especially if there's a separate UI element for it so you can talk while moving.

Huh, cool! :) Sounds like a very interesting addition to the banter system, good idea, hope it works out :)

I actually prefer it when they talk without your input. It's like a private conversation, you don't just butt in.

I think that sounds good.

I'm picturing it screwing with walking from place to place a little, though. Mind you, I always stopped to listen to banter in DA2 because it was fairly lengthy and I didn't want to run into a battle while someone was talking. :P

(I really struggle with getting lost in RPGs, weirdly enough, so stopping and starting while going somewhere is actually a thing.)

I am intrigued by David Gaider's suggestion.

I generally dislike my character chiming in without my assent but if we get options... YES PLEASE!

Too early to definitively say how.  Experimenting with different ideas because it's important to make sure it's not a jarring thing for the game experience IMO.
