Will the PC stay vocal in banters in DA:I?

Yes. In fact, we're testing out a way for the player to chime in occasionally-- not with an automatic line, but with a chosen response. It'll also be an opt-in system, so you can choose to chime in on the banter or remain silent and let them talk. We'll see if that ends up working as we expect, but I consider it the ideal evolution of the system.

Oooooo, melikey.

I love this idea!  I hope it works and that you implement it.

This is a noble and worthy endeavour. I hope it tests out positively and ends implemented in the game. Increasing player control over his/her character(s) is always a good thing.
I guess the main concern is how to fit enough information so that the player actually knows what s/he's picking without cluttering the UI or breaking the regular game flow.

That sounds really awesome!  I hope it works out alright on the technical side.

I wouldn't mind if it were time sensitve (you know me and my timers). As long as it was pausible like combat, I think it would work out fine if it was on the go.

Pausable might work.

I dislike the PC talking without my control.

Very much this. I'd rather my character never said a word unless I specifically choose to do so. I do not want them giving opinions in discussions where what they say may contradict the character that I have created.

Lack of player control is my largest concern when it comes to DA3 considering how much of an issue it has been with DA2 and ME2/3.

The Walking Dead game has an interesting system where you get timed responses in discussions, normally three choices as well as no response. The only problem is that the game is not the same style as DA, party banter in Bioware games normally happens while you are walking along outside of combat, as opposed to a cut-scene style conversation like the important ones.

That's cool. Sound similar to the idea I had a month ago in a thread about party banter. Where a QTE of diplomatic, sarcasm, and aggressive would pop-up during the banter. You either pick one and join in or ignore it.

I actually prefer it when they talk without your input. It's like a private conversation, you don't just butt in.

Yeah, I hope there are still a few conversations where you can't say anything. I remember in Origins, Leliana and Alistair had one banter where Alistair said "No, look, he's not even paying attention."

That's one of those sweet little things that get me excited. I hope the tests go well and it actually gets into the game.

Sweet. :D I was asking for something like this. :-)
I imagined a sort of cinematic walking and talking party conversation when you cross into certain areas or enter a zone (basically a banter) that lets you choose your character's response (effecting the conversation). Very cool.

If it doesn't shift to cinematic, I suppose you could hotkey the face buttons during the banter to choose a response. I do prefer cinematic style, but very cool either way.

I talk behind my PC's back all the time. I'm always like "you're so slow, I wish you weren't so lacking in size and prone to ending sessions prematurely".

You might want to pick a button that is not used very often. As you might say something you didn't want to when you try doing something else.

Such as clicking one of the joysticks?

I very much hope they make all of the controls customisable.  There's no excuse for not doing that.

For some conversations in DA2, like the one where Seb and Fenris are talking about handing the party's resident abomination to the Knight-Commander, I just assumed Hawke wasn't listening/wasn't within earshot.  Because damn, if my Hawke had ACTUALLY heard that, she'd have turned around and slugged Sebastian, metal gauntlet and all.  Then given Fenris a hug.

If it was like, a quick optional trigger press in the middle of banter, that would be super sick.

If they manage to implement the possibility of chiming in I'm all for it but don't get rid of those chats where the companions don't think the PC is listening. I laughed so hard when Wynne was teasing Alistair about staring at my PC's butt. I definitly felt like my char was blushing really hard and hoping for some darkspawn so she could pretend she never heard it. Now I didn't hate it when Hawke spoke up, particularly because it generally fit with the character I was going for (snarky assertive etc) but there were a few times when those assertive responses turned downright nasty which wasn't my intent.

This would be very cool. One of my favorite banters in DA2 is the 4 way conversation between Fenris, Carver, Varric and Hawke!

And I'd totally love the option if 2 companions are bickering behind the PC to stop, turn and yell "STOP your b*tching. I will SO turn this quest around and go home!"

Or if two of your companions are verbally abusing another one, (I'm looking at you Fenris and Anders...poor Merril). Your PC can arm him/herself with a spray bottle and squint water at the bullies telling them to knock it off.
