I figured I would stop creating new topics, as they all seem to be for the same purpose. So here I made my own lil' corner, where I can showcase my newest stuff. I am sure there are better solutions to this, but my general inactivity of actually viewing anything but the CCC threads most of the time, I probably just don't know about it if it is there.

Lower posts contain different things, I don't modify the main post except to change the topic title. (And this.) So if you are confused, just scroll down!

So let's get started! My lovely friend; Johnny, plays a game called Heroes of Newerth, now I have no clue about anything in this game, but he enjoys it, and has an alternative avatar for a character I only know as 'Lust' and, you can probably figure the theme.. She has big boobies... Anyways, she has a staff, and I said I would model it since it seemed a tad cutesie and a nice challenge. Now, since I haven't played this game, it is LOOSELY based off of the staff. Model done in about 3 hours in 3dsmax, textured in zbrush, and uv repaired in 3dsmax by hand after zbrush botched it.

Here they are at night:

Here they are during the day:

Also here's a somewhat unnecessary link to the staff while I still had it in zbrush: img89.imageshack.us/img89/1730/staff6g.jpg

It runs in at about 2.5k polys, unfortunately. :lol: But no biggy, right?!

Hope you like! I'll be releasing them sometime soon probably maybe! If any of you have any ideas on how to prevent a massive image rape on your browser that can eventually happen, any ideas would be welcome! Feedback on the staves would also be nice!

you can remove the word loosely since it looks even better than the original, thats awesome =]

Oh.. :P Why thank you, but it's still loosely based on it! My mind can only think 3D now, so I am starting work on my next project now. It's a surprise, but it may or may not be a helmet!

Ever see the animated movie 9? (not the musical!)

A staff one of the characters carries along with them, has a lightbulb as its light source. Very original for a staff.

I've always liked the idea, so I'm just passing it along.

FP!

I didn't know there was a musical! But yeah I've seen it, I totally forgot about that staff thing though. :P I like it, I may have to make that eventually. XD

After a god awful unholy horrendous insane amount of errors, mistakes, and general aggrivation; including having to COMPLETELY retexture it from scratch, I present to you, THE GAS MASK!

And just because I felt like pumping out the pitch black must-have screenshot, I tested on my character on an undisclosed server (totally caught someone in the picture) of whom abuses the color 'pitch black'. But I just had to see how it would actually look on a real character.

I am frankly, glad that this project is nearing an end. I have icons to do, and I need to actually fix up the hooded version to use less polygons. :bandit:

I like the model, but the texture looks a bit too "cloudy", not sure what type of material should be made of a gas mask in a steampunk setting, but I think some special gummy stuff or leather, adding some detail to the texture would make the model VERY nice :P

@s e n,
Well, that might be because of how it was done. I accidentally made it 2048x2048 when I exported the texturework from zbrush, had to tone it down to 512x512, I figured it looked out of place with all the other nwn stuff, so I did some work, still didn't look right, so I figured it was maybe a detail thing so I toned it down to 256x256, and I guess it just made it look cloudy. Any tips on that, perhaps? To get the higher res texture to not look horrendously out of place next to normal NWN.

Edit: I will be tossing it back up to 512x512, and making my changes to the larger image now.

For what it is worth, dusty, i think the texture is close to being just fine. It looks like very soft leather. I think if you take the texture and try an overlay for darkening certain spots with sharper edges suggestive of seams and stitching you'll have a very convincing leather fabric.

@henesua,
Thanks, but I think I may have fixed the issue of the higher res looking so out of place.
Tell me what you all think so far, I am still tweaking, I want a few more things to pop, while I like others how they are. Good thing this is in layers!

Edit: I fixed a few seam issues as well in the latest, but I just realized I made one on the back of the head really noticable.:blush: Well, I am going to take another break, wait for feedback, fix the seams later. I've hit a lot more issues than I thought I ever would on a project. Staff was simple, very minor seam issues, that I mostly fixed, and uv placement was wonky. Gas mask? Oho, countless problems!

I tried my hand at a big honking weapon again, much like my terrible greataxe, but I think I met with a lot more success this time. I only have the simple generic steel version thus far, still contemplating on what else I can do. But here it is so far:

I call it the B.F.S. =D Or fullblade works too, but I don't think that's supposed to be what fullblades are like, but who gives a damn?! Feedback, suggestions, that sort of stuff. I do listen to you folks, probably more than you realize!

And Edit:

A close-up of the chain, sort of.. Best I could get.

Posted Image

Super Edit: I have OCD, I put all the images into quotes. Hur.. Anyways, I forgot to mention, sitting at 2180 polys/tris, it most certainly crashes NWN when I try to render a shadow on it. For that reason, I am working on low poly shadow casting invisible objects. P.S. it's mostly the chain, which is the poly-hog, good lord chains are hard to model efficiently.

I wonder if the chain would look nearly as good as two planes intersecting at right angles and textured with a chain. that could cut the chain down to 4 triangles.

that chain does look good though. :)

No, no it would not. :)  Intersecting plane chains exist in NWN for various things already, and they don't look good when you look even remotely close at them.  You get the wrong angle, and suddenly half the links in the chain vanish.

I used intersecting planes for the string for my tag that I made for the Bazaar CCC, and that worked because it was a small object. But as Amethyst said, it looks weird on something bigger like a chain, especially if the chain is part of the focus of the weapon, like it is here. So really, intersecting planes for chains either only work for certain things (if you know how to use it well), or not at all. That leads me to think there's really no better way to model chains, it's either super lo-res or lots of polys. Meh! =P

<singing an old insect tune...>

Then there's the middle of the road approach - intersecting boxes with a diamond cross-section (that is, thick where they intersect, sharp at the edges to reduce the gap between faces. 24 faces instead of 4, but the links never get disappearingly thin.

Edit: No where near as pretty as mesh chain, but no where near as heavy either :-P

Edit 2: Shoot, subdivide the box longitudinally and make it danglymesh =)

I love the gas mask. I could use something like that in a module I am building. Any idea when you might release it?

I will try and release it soon, I got sidetracked and revamped the pixie model, working on the textures for that (discovered I have problems with organic things!).. but the textures for the gas mask need a few tweaks here and there, a little bit of a touchup on the hooded, and it should be ready to release. I am just a bit of a procrastinator, you know? :lol:

I really should finish up my sword project, my gas mask seams, and such. I will tell soon enough of when I will or have released such.

Same skeleton system, just reusing it, but all the body parts are redone to a much, much higher standard. No longer will the pixie look like a blocky tiny tranny. No more leaf skirt either, did away with that. Don't worry, you won't have to stare at a naked pixie! Well, not really. I am avoiding actually detailing in any nude bits, no nipples, no vagina, that sort of thing. 'Genderless' with a female form, even though that's not entirely accurate I don't think, I just don't want to do a leaf skirt like the original, and I also don't want to make the only revamp of a poor quality model into something nude. Oh that and I don't want to be known for nude material. <_<

Uhh, yeah.. SO! Here comes the new year, and here comes Dusty's plethora of new stuff. Think of it as late christmas, and a- yeah I don't have any of the stuff. I figured I would actually get off my lazy arse come 2013. I got bored of the pixie for some reason (who would have guessed?) and I am going to just release it as a model, no textures. Sorry! I may pick up on it later, but people are always free to mess with my content and fix it, add on to it, or finish it.. Stuff like that..

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I have a new thing to show you all! I am doing a request by a friend of mine, she's awesome. They're boxing gloves! They will come with a small and large version! Here's the screenshot of the testing I am doing.

Posted Image

By the way, don't worry, they don't clip a lot if at all, because of how big they are. So they should work with normal forearms, but spiky ones will likely work weirdly with them.

Also I forgot to elaborate! They're based off of the slaad gloves, but the shape is modified and improved. Such as it no longer looks like the glove is tightly fitted to a giant hand, which the original kind of does. :happy:
