I am going to bet my house that Dragon Age 3 isn't going to have Xbox 360 or Gamepad configuration built into it or even a way to make it accessible (because some of us have laptops and sit on beds, or sofas and play, or like to lean back not huddled over the table).

They might say it will, they did with Mass Effect 3 as well in the beginning, but its not actually going to have it in the game, I promise you that!

So, anybody else with me in thinking Bioware shouldn't force me to buy the console version and loose mods etc just because I don't want to be some H4RDC0R3 1337 G4M3R crouched over my keyboard and touchpad all day?

Just a thought.

That doesn't even make sense.

My point is mainly does anybody by 2014 or whatever it is, that it will be time Bioware released a game with Gamepad support?

I prefer to use a gamepad, so I would like it to be supported.
I find keyboards very uncomfortable to use.

Also, Jade Empire has gamepad support.

I'm hoping that the next Dragon Age game has gamepad support. Sometimes after a long day you just want to lounge back on a couch and play video games, so it's great that some PC RPGs offer this, such as Skyrim or The Witcher 2, instead of having to use a custom script.

I use a pad for most games but not Dragon Age.

It's a keyboard and mouse game all the way for me, actually, I only ever use a maximum of two key buttons, tab and space, the rest is mouse controlled.

DAO was a kb/m game. DA2 wasn't...

If DA3 is going to be like DA2, they really should add gamepad support, the game is clearly designed now with gamepad in mind as the primary control form. Then again Mass Effect went the entire trilogy with that reality and the issue was still completely ignored.

The fact that they utterly ignore it tells me there's some reason they don't want us to know why they refuse. What that would be I have no idea. They do occasional say they don't want to spend resources on it but anyone with half a brain cell knows thats a BS excuse since its all already developed and in engine ready to go. The only times they ever say that though is when they are put on the spot in person, never do they respond to forum posts or anything easily avoided, its a clear tactic to avoid giving a real answer for whatever reason they have to not be able to speak it. If you don't see something telling in that fact then your not very smart.

I support this, I recently figured out how I can use my PS3 controller on my laptop, so It would be awesome to be ble to use it in DA3 PC as well.

Just turned that around on you.

Its not like it would be mandatory. The option would be nice.

Huh? Why do you guys want worse, clunkier controls? A keyboard and mouse is just easier and simpler to use than a gamepad for this style of gameplay.

Some people would like the option.  I know there are times where I would use it if it was availalbe, but not all the time.  Of course I am partial because I don't want to buy another console and my computer is currently hooked up to my TV.

It's a matter of opinion.

Personally it's because a pad spells gaming for me, I was raised by the playstation and have only shifted to PC because of it's better standards, it's sort of just in my hands, the feeling of control I have over a joypad. It may not be optimal, but it's what I find most fun.

I don't understand - doesn't every PC game already have Xbox controller support built in? That's what the "Games for Windows" logo is for, one of the requirements is compatibility with Xbox controller. (not GFWL, just GFW)

While I only barely understood the opening post, I think I agree with it. Even if I don't intend to use it, personally, I feel there are enough PC gamers who prefer gamepads to justify including the option.

No, the developer has to include it, but since most PC games are also on the PS3 and 360 the developer leaves in the controller support.  The Games for Windows logo just means the game will work on a PC.  Now there are third party programs that emulate support for a keypad because it will take the input from the controller and tell the PC that you are really pressing "w" to move forward, but I normally have issues with them working with consistency.

Fair enough, I just can't imagine choosing to use a radial menu over the quick bar.

Xpadder's a great program, but plenty of the interface changes on PC make it tough to use gamepads as effectively as it works on consoles. Native support really is preferable in this case.

I know some people won't use the option and for whatever reason get irritable at the very notion, but it would be extremely nice to have it there for those who want it - which is a fair deal of people, judging from the frequency of these sorts of threads. Please do this, BW.

No, it is not.

You may prefer gamepads for gaming, but it is a simple fact that mouse+keyboard is much better for controlling a party in a tactical rpg. Optimizing it for consoles (which they will do) will result in reduced complexity and lower difficulty.

In Jade Empire you controlled one guy, not a party. And combat was incredibly simplistic.

My main problem with having to use a keyboard and mouse is that it terrible for movement.

Also, as someone who as played Dragon Age 2 on both PC and Console, I found it was much easier to control the party when using a gamepad.

In addition, there is usually a ton of dialogue in Bioware games, and some of us simply like to lie back on a couch, sofa, or bed while playing, which is much easier to do with a gamepad.  If gamepad support could be added without hurting the keyboard and mouse experience, or without costing too much resources, then I hope Bioware considers it.

How could positioning possibly be easier with a gamepad/controller? You have to move four characters at the same time, so using the stick doesn't really work.

Positioning your party, using a dozen different skills, placing aoe-spells...all of these things are much harder to do with a controller. What exactly is easier with a controller?

Besides, Dragon Age 2's combat was simplified from how combat was in DA:O and my guess is that it was done due to a stronger focus on consoles.
