Will one of the backgrounds allow us to play as a very devoted follower of the Chantry? Like a Leliana/Petrice level of devotion.

A PC that fully believes in the Chantrys teachings and will often quote lines from the Chant of Light or call on the Maker in conversations.

*PC confronted by a Thug*

Thug: "Give me all your gold!"
PC: "May the Maker have mercy on your soul!" *Starts combat*

Am I the only one who wants to see such a background?

I have no problem with such a background existing... However it's the background I'd be least likely to use, at least on my first couple of times through the game.

That could get pretty interesting, actually. Especially if you have someone like Mother Petrice as your superior.

That seems like something that would fit better in in-game choices. Maybe have a Chantry clergy background instead? And then your choices during playthrough would determine how devoted you presently are?

To be fair, Petrice and Leliana had very different ideas on devotion to the Chantry.

And you're not alone. I myself hope to have a strongly Andrastrian PC this time around as both my Warden and Hawke weren't the most religious. (I like each character to be different)

EDIT
I also want a Tal-Vashoth background. And in the next game, I want to be an elven Qunari. I'll cry if that's not possibles.

I'm all for this background. I've always been a strong chantry supporter and I'd like the ability for my character to reflect that.

I hope there are options to become overzealous. It would be fun. Burning Morrigan on a stake.(I don't hate her but thats what an over-zealous inquisitor would do.)

^ You are the first person I've ever seen with a WoT sig outside of their forums. It wins btw.

I wouldn't mind being able to show a burning fervor for the Maker at every turn, or lack thereof, but I'd rather the backgrounds be structured around something like social class or past deeds or something.I mean playing a zealot does not really need a whole background to support it.

I doubt they have plans to accommodate a zealous mindset of any faith or lack thereof. It's too far and away from a normal person's personality, the lines would be jarring.

Depends on how/if they plan on reimplimenting the personality system. Instead of sarcastic/diplomatic/aggresive you might now get mage/zealot/apathetic instead! :P

I'm okay with that, but since I'm an atheist, so I probably also want a background where I denounce the Maker and the Chantry at every turn.

That is true, their ideas on how to express devotion are very different but both are highly devoted regardless of how they portray that devotion.

:lol:They are the Paragon and Renegade versions of Chantry followers, something I hope we could be.

This. I have no interest in playing a theocratic zealot. I have to deal with them in my real life as it is.
