Genuine
This post is genuine and not a troll.   One of the reasons I do not put my registration key into these forums is because of the odd moderation of posts. I'm not cursing, I'm not cussing and I'm totally respectful. Yet I always get in trouble for personal views of the game I enjoy playing (to a certain extent).

Original Thought
Aah yes, let's face it...  Pausing is dumb.  It's either realtime or turn based. There is no middle ground.

If it wasn't for the strong story, voice overs & plot in the game I would of never played dragon age.  I absolutely hate pausing. I hate it so much I play on easy mode.. BUT still sometimes I have to pause.

Pausing means you admit defeat.  It means the situation was so overwhelming you were forced to pause, accept defeat in order to win. Once a situation is "overwhelming", that is usually the moment you are about to lose and suffer a defeat.

A Mod
I'm currently in the process of trying to find out if pausing can be disabled via a mod, I will then attempt to make modifications to the game to make a "realtime" mod that is balanced.  Realtime decisions leading to realtime victories are soo much more rewarding than pausing space & time in order to do a 360 with the mouse looking for enemy mages.

Pausing to fix broken AI

I understand that one needs to pause to control their companions.  But isn't that what combat tactics are for? The problem is the AI for your companions is broken. Often times your companions wil do the dumbest things possible and you have to pause in order to fix their broken AI.   That isn't tactics, that is retarded.  Pausing to fix broken AI is a design flaw.

There is a mod that attempts to repair the idea of "combat tactics" and it's making progress. But still.

I'm just voicing my opinion that I do not like pausing.  If there are others who don't like it either let me know here. If there is enough support then a mod is definitely in order.

A realtime mod would be ideal for people who want to preseve the intensity of battle.

Pausing destroys the moment
Because when you pause the moment is lost, you've admitted defeat and turned on a form of god mode (pausing).  You might as well spam a 1000 healing potions while you're at and then turn on the cheat console and teleport yourself into the black city.

Cool story brah.

And you didn't register the game because you have no game to register. You are a pirate QQing about a game you didn't even pay for. Generalizations ftw.

I feel exactly the opposite. I think any game where you are controlling more than one individual should have a pause option. I love strategy and planning and removing pause would pretty much remove remove that aspect. Not every game needs to be an action game, if that's what you want there are plenty of them out there for you.

If the game didn't have pausing I wouldn't even play it despite all the other good things about it.

I never paused in EQ, just had to count when to get those heals off. Then again, I didn't have control of 4 seperate entities.

If combat in DA were more dynamic like in EQ, I'd look into getting that xp at $30 for 15 hours of gametime. I wonder if that 15 hours takes into account all the pausing you'd have to do.

I don't even pause at the high dragon or whatever, pausing is a poor excuse for saying that you cannot complete the game in its normal original intent...

For the high dragon all go ranged and maybe 1 tank that you can keep healed... that way it goes down fast likewise with other similiar bosses... for everything else pound out DPS/CC while the tank takes the agro.. the strategies you can set up easy enough for it as it is.

Ah, I do so enjoy seeing ignorant comments made. You do realize that BioWare has been making games for a LONG time and that they started out making games for the PC before expanding to consoles? From Baldur's Gate on, pausing in combat has been a feature to enable a hybrid option between RTS and turn-based action. But please, continue to make unsubstantiated claims as to what the "original intent" of the developers was with regards to the combat system.

Wait a sec, you ARE being sarcastic, right? Sometimes, it's so hard to tell...

Let me amend that to this: you ARE being sarcastic about MMOs, right?

I knew it! When I played MMOs (EQ2 among others) I ALWAYS looked for the PAUSE-button but didn't find it. Now the poster above ("Stitch808") states, that he never used PAUSE in EQ, so I assume, there has been such a button!

But I guess, I simply was a n00b. I didn't find the quicksave button either.
