Recently I rewatched some of the older PAX vids, where someone asked about sharing game progress in DA:O with friends - or the lack of it, and how to remedy that - which gave me and idea. :o

How about having a Journal/Diary for your PC, which would basically work as a progress log, documenting all encounters and actions taken by the PC. This Journal could then be uploaded to your DA3 profile page, much like N7 HQ for Mass Effect 3 multiplayer.

Now, I understand some might argue it breaks the roleplaying element, but if the entries weren't too personalized, revovling around the PC's thoughts on missions or companions, but more in the style of 'been there, done that', I think it could work.

There are many reasons why the PC might be required to write a diary - maybe in case they don't succeed in whatever they're doing, so that others may pick up where they left off, or remedy their mistakes or whatever... Maybe it's a policy for all Inquisitors (if, indeed, that's what we'll be playing as). Or maybe they just like documenting their progress.

Truth is, I love going trhough all the codex entries and reading all there is to read, so  that's why this appeals to me so much.

But what do you guys think? Yay or nay?

You mean something like this from DA:O?

I'm not really interested, personally.

Yeah, but more like a real diary, possibly with pictures, that would document my choices. For me, it's not much about sharing my progress (which seems to appeal to others, for some reason, though) as about some verification of my actions in game...

They could evolve on the thing they had from Origins, and make something really neat.

Like and actual electronic kind of book. On the cover it could read something like: The Journey of "Player Name".

Then you would open it up and there would be the major plot events. It shouldn't be like in Origins where EVERYTHING was documented. Just the major events and maybe with a picture from the game where you could see your character talking with someone and a description of what transpired.

Then you would flip through the pages, and see how your story had progressed and what different choices you made with your character in that playthrough.

But it seems like Bioware don't want to do something like that. They tried something like that with Origins, but instead of improving upon it, it seems like they just threw everything out the window. DA2 had nothing like it.

Exactly my thoughts. I might not have stated this clearly, but thats basically what I meant.

Well, they implemented a lot of things into DA2 that, I guess, were supposed to be innovative and new and better.... yet, most of it didn't work, accordingg to the fanbase reactions.... I believe they are going in a different direction with DA3, and why not add this, if it helps enhance the player experience and immersion?

I will like this, makes my stalker life much easier (my girlfriend is in shiver now), and hopefully also a HQ like ME3 for the mp if there is one.

Taking it a step further, I wouldn't mind something like this to encompass all of the Dragon Age games based on which saves you imported. With all of the choices/actions you've made over the series, it would be unrealistic for Bioware to have full, flushed out narratives for every little thing, but if they were chronicled in a journal you could have the satisfaction of knowing what you have done in the game is represented here.

Fable actually had an interesting method of representing your actions with a large chamber that had stain glass windows showing what happened at key points in the story. Now imagine you have just started DA3 and there is a somewhat extended prologue showing what you have done in previous games. Just an image of my Warden slaying the Arch-demon would really tie all the games together more comprehensibly and enhance the sense of how you shaped events that impacted the world of Dragon Age.
