Not only i would like to see the return of the Arcane Warrior, but also being able to dual wield swords using a warrior.

In theory, I like the idea of being an arcane warrior. I just thought it was a smidge (maybe more than a smidge :P ) OP in DA:O.

If they do bring it back, I wouldn't mind having a few warrior skills like shield bash or pommel. I also liked being able to do magic and rock out boss arms and weapons. On the other hand, I also wouldn't mind something new. I really enjoyed force magic in DA2, so if Bioware can cook something original and fun, I'd also be game to that.

yes! I'd love to use a sword and dagger, and still be able to set me sword a blaze again.

no it was so overpowered my mage playthrough was easy as anything

You heard it here folks.  AW warrior is impossible to fix or even nerf.  We will not be getting it.

This is just absurd. Mages in general were stupidly oveprowered in Origins. They aren't godmode in DA2. There's no reason that BioWare could not balance the spec as they see fit.

Regardless, I have always liked melee casters and still put my mage Hawke in heavy armor. I'm all for more battlemagery.

Mages in general I think should be able to put on armour and wield a weapon if they meet the stat requirement. There's no reason why the can't. It was the fade talents that made AW overpowered.

It gives replay value to the mage class, giving a sort of warrior/mage hybrid option to the pure scholar. I think some sort of mix between rouge and mage would be awesome too, like an illusionist? Oo

I like the idea of a prestige class that melds magic with swordsmanship.

The arcane warrior was poorly designed, however.

Indeed, I always felt like Spirit Warrior from Awakening did the whole spellsword thing a lot better than Arcane Warrior did. Which also reminds me... I really want Spirit Warrior to make a comeback for Inquisition hehe ^_^

I think the elements behind the Spirit Warrior specialization were integrated into the Templar specialization in Dragon Age 2 (i.e., resistance to hostile spells and incorporating spirit damage into their attacks).

Arcane Warrior has similar potential to the Vanguard in terms of badassery, IMO. Both are mixes of magic (/space magic) and martial skill. Both were boring but nigh indestructible in their original incarnation. But then, look where they took the Vanguard in ME2/3.

Just sayin'.

Sure. As long as they're not the relentlessly tedious indestructible auto attack machines they were in Origins.

I'd prefer a new spec. since blood mage is returning and spirit healer will probably return as well.

ugh, I hate blood magic; always feels like I either become a blood mage, or a healer. May we have a less controversial magic specialization, please?

Yes.

And on blood magic: I think it should stand out from the rest as being ridiculously more powerful (rather than weaker), but have a huge moral downside (rather than... nothing).

I wouldn't mind if DAIII made specializations fundamentally change your character's ability set and how they played. Arcane Warrior did that in DA:O. Instead of being a long range attacker in need of protection, the Arcane Warrior was a close range scrapper.

I'd like to see the Arcane Warrior or a similar "spellsword" specialization in DAIII.

The thing is, because blood magic is so controversial I don't think there will ever be a DA game that doesnt allow you to become one. As for spirit healer, well people feel they need a healer mage for some reason so that spec will also likely be with us for the duration. I hope spirit healer will be only for one of your companions in DA:I, but I doubt it since people will likely complain about being "forced" to take along that character. Barring that they really should rethink how it was designed in DA2, it was clunky and annoying to use due to the lockout. It's not like it had the same power it did in DAO so it just felt doubly penalized.

Oh hells yes to the Arcane Warrior, and to the people who felt it was OP, was it so OP that it summoned a mean gnome to hold a gun to your head to force you to play using that spec? As for lore there's an arcane warrior in the "informal training opportunities" quest. So either the mage warden taught the skills to a Dalish Keeper or to a fellow Gray Warden mage. Additionally a Dalish Keeper could have learned the skills through research at elven ruins.

I found AW terribly boring, but

I frankly think that the war is the best moment for something like the arcane warrior to arise. Templars can block the flow of mana, meaning you better kiss all your pretty protection spells goodbye. I can see at least a handful of mages deciding that armor + non-magical weapon is the way to go and mixing that with their arcane abilities.

I found AW boring to play as well. Yeah your defense is ridiculous but... it's just glyph casting and sword swinging. I do glyph casting in addition to healing and blood magic in DA:O and it's more exciting and more powerful.

That being said I wouldn't complain if it came back again... but if we only get like 3 specs per class again I'd rather those three specs be more mage-like and less warrior like. Like Spirit Healer, Blood Magic, Force Magic, Battle Magic, or even Keeper... although that spec needs some work as well.

There's also one near the nest in The Sacred Ashes quest.  Where could he have learned it?  I'd assume some elves or Tevinters would have kept such magic alive.

I'd like to have a fighting mage return, but preferably with a bladed staff, to keep it unique and different than warriors & rogues.
