I hate this line so much. The actual line AND the actors' delivery of it. A little part of me dies every time I hear it.

Wow, just when I thought that this mod could not be any better, an inclusion like that would be icing on the cake for me.

just saying this took me maybe five minutes all in all (not counting playing through the finale again...) nearly no effort to give myself (and some others apparently ;D) a bit more satisfaction...

I'm still wondering why they got Buzz Aldrin at all involved in this? He is wasted (well anyone would be on this scene...)

Huh. I somehow managed to miss the fact that Buzz Aldrin was the one reciting that line.
I think it's cool that they tried to get a real astronaut/legend involved somehow, but this is the worst possible tribute they could have given.

Note: it's a very rough cut, adapted from an IGN youtube clip of the Refuse ending. If I made it for real, I would capture footage from the game and use much cleaner audio.

I agree. I think that no one should disrespect Mr. Aldrin for his voice acting, he's obviously not a professional voice actor, but it was nice of him to agree to this. And the basic idea from BioWare was quite nice too, somehow they obviously did want to provide a fitting ending to this fantastic trilogy. The problem is simply that the writing of the whole ending of the game, that last scene included, is terrible and not nearly up to the standards of the rest of the game and of BioWare themselves.wavion wrote...

As for replacing the Stargazer scene, I would be for it. As it is, I think it's just annoying and doesn't provide anything meaningful, let alone a proper conclusion to Shepard's story. I like the animation with Liara and Shepard that was used in one of the videos above. It's amazing what fans can do. However, if anyone were to really put in the work to replace the Stargazer scene, I would prefer if Shepard's face would remain hidden. Otherwise, like in that video, for many people it would just not be their own Shepard who suddenly appears.

how would you do it? I mean, how would one show Shepard without showing Shepard and at the same time show the LI in full? (reminds me of the beginning of ME2 but a helmet is a no-go in this instance.

The easiest way would be to not show them at all. Instead one could show pictures of their new home or their homeworld or even a black screen with just some dialogue. I'm sure that some fitting and meaningful new dialogue could be constructed by realigning existing voice assets. You can sometimes find this in movies too, where some characters provide some additional closure and information from off-screen at the end of the movie.Bierwichtel wrote...

But I was more thinking about showing them from behind or from a distance. Of course there would probably still have to be made at least versions for a female as well as a male Shepard, but in my opinion it would still be better than to have someone appear in the game who isn't our own Shepard. This is all theoretical of course, but the Stargazer scene is a video file, so if anyone is interested in really creating such a scene, I suppose it should be easier to transfer it to the actual game than it was for MrFob to change in-game cutscenes.

Honestly, I can't imagine that working effectively unless it's a real-time cinematic, so each person's Shepard model can be shown. As a video file, a Stargazer replacement probably shouldn't show Shepard at all. Which is why I was hoping to get some feedback on my sample video.
oops, sorry... thought I already answered to that (actually I just remembered I did, apparently I was too stupid to save, ah what the hell)
taking out all allusions to losing the war is awesome, how do you plan on smoothing the hard cuts?
Now that I think about it, it should not be too hard, as Liara's lip-movements are never clearly seen (unless I'm utterly mistaken)
top effort, mate.

it could be a "forgotten" tima capsule ... liara placed them across the galaxy and they were forgotten after the war - they were not needed anymore.
if someone would find this capsule, it would be a historical archive, a tressure trove of data and a witness to the zeitgeist that reigned during the war.
it would be like finding "audio recordings" from the romans ... we know know how they spoke, we dont know what the sound was like.

I like the concept. Also, since Liara can only die with low EMS, everyone who is watching the MEHEM ending will still have her alive. That makes your video universal and independent of what Shepard looks like or who the romance is with.
As for why we are seeing an empty field with an old hologram, how about this:
A text overlay on the bottom of the screen that says "Memorial Park, Tuchanka - Many Years Later"

That was just a 20-minute cut-job. With a higher quality capture and some actual effort, I'm pretty sure I can recreate the scene without any serious stuttering/jumps. And lip synching shouldn't be a problem, since you can't see her lips. I also wouldn't mind adding a few additional lines of Liara dialogue from elsewhere in the game, if I (or you guys) could think of something that would be appropriate.
top effort, mate.
Thanks!

it is one thing to see the old extranet recordings of the heros of the war but time has the bad attitude to "water down" and simplify personalities.
the time capsule would be the cold, static truth. it shows what the people were really thinking and how desperate the situation really was.

How about when the hologram fades out you begin to hear Joker's dialouge from the beginning of ME1 before fading to black. Bring the trilogy full circle.

I'm actually thinking Udina's voice:
"Well, what about Shepard?"

That's not bad. If I cut out the background-specific stuff, you're left with:
Udina: What about Shepard... is that the kind of person we want protecting the galaxy?
Anderson: That's the only type of person who can protect the galaxy.
Udina: I'll make the call.
wwinters99: Joker's awesome, but he doesn't say anything profound at the beginning of the game.

I got plans for the refuse scene already (way into the future but still, they are there)
Just a little curious side note: When I was researching video import, I did a proof of concept thing which kind of goees with a similar idea here. Check it out at about 4:30 (VO is crap, obviously).
As for the stargazer scene: As I was saying a few pages back, I want to try and set it up in a way so it's very easy to just put LI scenes in there in a future version. I myself won't do it for MEHEM itself but this way, fans of the characters could create an LI "expansion pack" like the ones shown here. If I can, I do want the game to distinguish for the different LI's (and posibly male vs. femShep). Not sure if/how that's gonna work yet though.
Also, just watched the original MEHEM v0.2 ending for the first time again since last November or so (had to do some baseline in game testing). I wonder what it's like in the context of the game itself. I always watched it on it's own for testing. Gotta start a series playthrough after v0.3 is done.

Udina's say "Well, What about Shepard" before immediately mentioning Shepard's background.
You have a couple of choices:
- End the scene right after Udina's first line. Might seem a little abrubt
- Edit Udina's and Anderson's conversation to remove reference to background, service history, and gender. Problem with this is that the conversation no longer resembles the opening of ME1, it might lose the intended impact.
- Actually have the appropriate dialouge play based on save file data. This would be amazing to see but possibly too difficult/impossible to implement at this time.
